FUT Minna lecturer dismissed for sexual harassment

A lecturer in the Department of Geology in Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger state, has been dismissed by the management of the institution over sexual harassment.

Omanayin Yunusa Adinoyi is alleged to have sexually assaulted a female student in his department who took his course. An investigation was carried out after the case was reported and the outcome of the investigation led to his dismissal.

It was learnt that the dismissal was approved during the University Council’s 131st meeting presided over by the Vice Chancellor (VC), Prof. Abdullahi Bala. The decision was reached after the investigative panel found Adinoyi guilty of inappropriate relationship with a female student. 

The VC said Adinoyi’s dismissal would serve as deterrent to others as “the university has taken further steps to ensure total elimination of sexual harassment in FUT, Minna community."

Four witch doctors arrested with pots of human blood and body parts (Photos)

Authorities have arrested four witch doctors over alleged ritual killing in Nagalama, Uganda.

The witch doctors Junior Kibuuka, Fred Kiiza Semanda, Wamala Muhammed and Owen Sebuyungowere arrested after a disappearance report was filed at Nagalama Police Station, by relatives of one Mirembe Zuraika. 

Confirming the arrests, Jesca Naawe, the Assistant Superintendent of Police said: “They tipped off police that she had been last communicated of her appointment with one Owen Sebuyungo, a 24-year-old witch doctor.”

In his statement, Sebuyungo narrated that Mirembe visited his shrine for help since she had been possessed by spirits. Sebuyungo reportedly then contacted his spiritual consultant, a renowned witch doctor, Mohammed Wamala alias Bob who persuaded him to murder the victim.

According to Sebuyungo, Mohammed told him that he would double his wealth if he cut off the head of a female being.

ASP Nawe also disclosed that the four witch doctors have confessed to the heinous act and even led police to their shrine where they murdered and buried the victim.

At the shrine, he said Police exhumed five bodies and recovered a number of items that include spears and pots filled with fresh blood suspected to be human blood.

He revealed: “Upon thorough questioning, the four confessed to having welcomed Mirembe at the shrine, waited for dawn, murdered her by cutting off and buried her head in the shrine.”

“The suspects accepted to cooperate leading police to the shrine where she had been buried. Shockingly five bodies buried in a rather disturbing positions were exhumed.”

The search is still going on. We suspect more bodies must still be buried under the remaining five shrines,” ASP. Naawe said.

One of the suspects,  Wamala Muhammed told police he murdered and buried eight females from his home inGanda Nansana at the shrine 

According to Uganda's Galaxy FM, blood samples have been picked and taken to Government Analytical Laboratory (GAL), while the recovered bodies that had decomposed beyond recognition have been taken to Mulago hospital for DNA test so that the relatives can identify them.

The four suspects are currently detained at Nagalama Police Station as investigations are ongoing.

Celina, an Instagram model, has been known to expose all of her ex-rapper lovers by leaking photos of herself and them in their beds and Akon is the latest to be exposed.

Fire destroys Baga fish market in Maiduguri

On Sunday night, a raging fire at the popular Baga Fish Market in Maiduguri destroyed dozens of shops, fish stock and other property. Malam Muhammad Labo, a trader in the Market, told NAN that the fire, started at about 10.30 p.m., suggesting that it was caused by electrical fault.

“We locked our shops and went home; later, we received the shocking news that the market was on fire. Most of the shops at the main fish market were burnt to ashes; we are still trying to put out the fire” he said.

Labo, however, said that the quick intervention of the fire service personnel helped contain the fire from spreading to other parts of the market.  Ambursa Pindar, the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Borno State Fire Service, confirmed the incident and said that four fire-fighting trucks were deployed to the market.  

Pindar said that the service responded promptly to fire calls at the market and appealed for calm, adding that the fire was under control. He further said that the service would investigate the cause of the fire.
