olice parade 49 suspects for murder, robbery, others

…Three fake journalists arrested in church

The FCT Police Command on Monday paraded 49 suspects for their alleged involvement in murder, armed robbery, car snatching, and other crimes.

Two of the suspects; Alfred Leonard and Samson Agbo were paraded for allegedly killing one Michael Iorkohol.

Michael according to the Police was initially reported missing by his family members but his remains was later found in Piyako community in Abuja.

The Police recovered from the suspects the deceased’s wrist watch, belt, pieces of his shirt, palm sandals, ATM card and his ID card.

Speaking during the parade, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Bala Ciroma said: “The Command has recorded another milestone in its fight against crime with the arrest of one Alfred Leonard; 29 years and Samson Agbo; 37 who conspired and murdered one Michael Iorkohol 47 years.

“Initially, the family reported a case of a missing person at Karu Division on 17th July, 2018 at about

1930hrs but during investigation, we got to know that the principal suspect; Alfred Leonard was the last person seen with him.

“Following the circumstances surrounding his mysterious disappearance, Leonard who was last sighted with the deceased was arrested at Kaduna after discreet investigation.

“The suspect confessed during interrogation that he conspired with one Samson Agbo to murder the deceased whose carcass was recovered from the bush at Piyako Community.”

Amongst those also paraded were; Kolawole Akin, Rasheed Kareem and Isah Ibrahim.

The Police said they disguise as journalists to steal phones and other valuables from dignitaries at major events in Abuja.

They were arrested in a church at Asokoro area of Abuja where they were picking pockets.

On the arrest of the fake journalists, Ciroma said: “On the 11th August, 2018 police operatives arrested three suspects who usually disguised as journalists to steal cash, phones and other valuables from the public gatherings.

“The suspects who operate mostly at worship and event centres where you have large gathering of important personalities were arrested at a Church in Asokoro.”

Narrating his involvement in the murder, Leonard said: “Mike was somebody who was sick and I was treating him for eight months. I was giving him medicine because he had a bulging stomach.

“He told me that he was in secret society and begged me not to tell his family members about it. They know me in his family . I advised him to go back to the society and return whatever belongs to them.

“He also told me that they had given him an hour to die on Sunday and he would die. He begged me to kill him but I declined because I am a Jukun by tribe and it is a crime to kill in my place.

“My friend Agbo was there when everything transpired. Mike asked my friend to scratch his back saying if he doesn’t and the hour given to him to die passes that his daughters would also die.

He continued: “I did not kill Mike with my hand. Mike begged to be killed. I did not kill him with my hand. I told him to die himself. I opted to take him home. Mike then told my colleague that he should scratch his back and once blood comes out, he will die.

“We only helped him. We didn’t kill him because we wanted anything from him. My friend scratched him and he died.”

Also narrating his involvement, one of the fake journalists, Akin said: “I work with African Peoples Voice. We were On our way to Asokoro to pick something from a friend when we noticed cars parked with lots of crowd in front of the church.

“We went in and disguised as journalists. We go to such gatherings like that to steal but I didn’t steal on that day. It was my friend that picked things from people’s pockets and bags.

“We normally go to such gatherings to pick pockets because people don’t suspect that journalists would steal.”

The CP said the suspects would be arraigned in court on completion of investigation.

He also assured members of the pubhc that the Command has made adequate security arrangements that will cover Eid praying grounds and recreational facilities during the Sallah period.uote) (Report) (Like) (Share)

Miyetti Allah Disowns Member Over 'Saraki Resign Or Be Forced Out' - Politics -

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association has dissociated itself from call by one Garus Gololo, its member in Makurdi to Senate President Bukola Saraki to resign or be forced out in an interview he granted to Punch Newspaper.

Baba Uthman Ngelzarma, National Secretary, MACBAN described the statement as un unfortunate in a statement issued on Wednesday morning.

The statement reads in part: “I will categorically state that Garos Gololo spoke in his personal capacity and has no mandate to speak on behalf of the association.

“Miyetti Allah is a non partisan association with no interest in the political terrain and we couldn’t meddle into the affairs of political actors thereby compounding our already obvious challenges. I therefore urge all and sundry to disregard this statement.

“This statement is not from MACBAN and should be disregarded in its entirety. We take exception on this statement and Garos Gololo is entirely on his own and will be sanctioned accordingly.

“We cannot afford to add up to the many challenges we are confronted with. I’m therefore appealing to the general public to disregard this statement as it is coming from someone who doesn’t have the mandate of the association to speak on its behalf. Thank You and God bless you all.”

Fraudsters Defraud Us-based Businessman Of N33million (photo) - Crime -

Some suspected fraudsters have allegedly defrauded a United States-based Nigerian businessman, James Okolo, of N33m.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the Anambra State indigene, who owned a company, C & J Majesty Global Trading Company Limited, had visited the country for a business.

A friend of his was alleged to have introduced him to Ogbonyomi Taiye, who claimed to be a licensed oil dealer in the country.

Our correspondent gathered that after the duo signed a Memorandum of Understanding on February 2, 2018, Okolo paid $80,000 (N28.8m) to Taiye for crude oil.

The money was said to be part payment for shipment of two million barrels of Bonny Light Crude Oil, as the parties agreed that an additional $40,000 would be paid upon a successful delivery of the product.

The vessel purportedly conveying the oil was allegedly diverted to India.

Okolo, who spoke to our correspondent, said he petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, over the case.

The victim lamented that efforts to recover his funds had been abortive.

He said, “Uzoma (friend), a man I trusted brought Engineer Taiye, who said he would deliver petroleum products to my company through the official channel. He said we would have to charter a vessel.

“He gave us the name of the vessel and other particulars. With the way the communication was going, we thought we were dealing with an honest person. He went as far as signing an agreement with us and that was how we got convinced that he was real.

“But immediately the money was transferred, things went wrong. He said he would pay back the money, but since February, when this incident happened, we have not got our money back.

“I called Engineer Taiye and he made me to stay in a hotel for three months, spending about N5m. When he was arrested, the police brought me back to Nigeria and despite spending more time and money; I did not get back the money.”

The 50-year-old said it was the second time he would be allegedly defrauded in two years.

“I came to provide jobs for the less privileged in Nigeria, but it is unfortunate that this is happening. It appears that scammers don’t want foreigners and Nigerians abroad to help the less privileged.

“Engineer Taiye claimed to be a petroleum dealer with regular allocation from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. Uzoma was the one who introduced him to me. I am worried because this is not giving us a good image abroad and my business partners have been on my neck,” he added.

A police source said Uzoma was the first to be arrested and arraigned, adding that Taiye was arrested in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on July 13, 2018.

It was gathered that after the arrest of Taiye, another businessman, Dr Godknows Itamunaola, surfaced at the SCIID and allegedly said the suspect had equally defrauded him.

“In the course of investigation, it was discovered that the suspect is a serial fraudster. On June 23, he defrauded one Dr Godknows Itamunaola of the sum of N1.3m,” the source added.

The Kogi State indigene was subsequently arraigned before an Ebute-Meta Magistrates’ Court on two separate charges of fraud.

The first charge read in part, “That you, Ogbonyomi Bartholomew Taiye, and others at large, on February 12, 2018, on Ariyo Street, in the Ejigbo area of Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony, to wit: obtaining money under false pretences, stealing and issuance of dud cheque….

“That you, Ogbonyomi Bartholomew Taiye, and others at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned magisterial district, with intent to defraud, did obtain the sum of N33.8m from one James Okolo of C & T Majesty Global Trading Co. Limited under the pretence of supplying Bonny Light Crude Oil to him, a representation you knew to be false….”

The police prosecutor, Cyril Ajiofor, said the offences were punishable under sections 411, 314 and 280 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and elected summary trial.

The magistrate, A.O. Komolafe, admitted him to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

The case was adjourned till September 17, 2018.

Uncertainty Rocks N’golo Kante New Role: Questions On Chelsea Fans Lips - Sports -

N’Golo Kante since the arrival of Italian boss Maurizio Sarri, have been deployed to a different role. The French international have been licenced to move further up in the middle of the park. This have seen him score Chelsea’s first league goal of the 2018/2019 football season against Hudderfield on Match day 1.

The Chelsea star featured with Teammate Jorginho in the recent game against Arsenal, with the Italian sitting deep to protect the back four. Pedro, Morata and Alonso all scored as Chelsea defeated the North London side.

While Chelsea did their bidding in overall, the former Leicester city midfield had enviable match stats. Kante had three shots at goal. Completed 92 percent of his passes, won three tackles and made complete dribbles in style.

Blues Legend Pat Nevin was full of praise for the Frenchman in his interview.

“The question will be asked by many Chelsea fans, is it really a good idea to have so many attacking players on the field and also asking our best defensive midfielder, N’Golo Kante, to play that much further up the field, especially when we come to face the very best sides?” Nevin told Chelsea FC’s website.

“Time will tell but as I have suggested already on this page, Maurizio Sarri is unlikely to stray from his stated style.

“Kante himself looked incredible in his new role, making runs behind the Arsenal defence that any centre-forward would be proud of. It does leave Jorginho more often than not as the deepest midfielder and his best talents are clearly creating from there rather than covering defensively.”

Ngige: N50,000 NYSC Monthly Allowance Increase Is False. No Increment Yet - Politics -

Minister for Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige has dismissed reports that the Federal Government was planning to increase the monthly allowance for youth corps members.

Rumours had been rife weeks ago that the Federal Government was planning to increase the monthly allowance from N19,800 to N50,000, but Ngige has said there’s no truth in it.

He said in a press briefing in Anambra that the Federal Government wouldn’t increase the allowance of corps members without first coming out with a minimum wage for the Nigerian workers.

“No recommendation has come to the Federal Executive Council on this. The NYSC pay is on the sliding scale; the same sliding scale with the national minimum wage except that there is a top up; what is called top up on the national minimum wage is to make for special transport allowance for members of the NYSC,” he said.

“That is why today, the national minimum wage is N18,000, and the top up for NYSC members is about N1,500 making it N19,500. This is what the Federal Government pays each corps member.

“For now, there is no figure before us as an increment and as a matter of fact, the last Federal Executive Council had mandated the Minister of Youths and Sports to liaise with the Director General of the NYSC so that he can be brought on board for us to work as a team,” the minister further stated.

My Dad Is Very Stingy - Mapoly Undergraduate Who Stole Dad's Severance Pay - Crime

Ade Giwa, the father of an Ordinary National Diploma student at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Richard Giwa, has accused his son of stealing the severance pay given to him by the last firm he worked for.

The father said Richard allegedly transferred the money into his bank account.

Punch Metro reports that the 22-year-old transferred the sum of N135,000 from the account through his father’s phone.

The father said he was charging his phone in the sitting room when Richard sneaked in and took it.

He said,

“Richard has done this criminal act before. He looks so gentle that when you see him, you will think he cannot commit such an act.

“The company I was working for was shut down in April 2017. We thought we would be called back, only for me to get a retirement letter in December 2017.

“In March, my boss sent N140,000 to me as part payment of my severance pay. Richard came home, saw the alert, gradually transferred N135,000 from the account and fled the house.

“I was shocked when I saw the balance in my account. So, I went to my bank and it was there that I was asked who Richard Giwa was and I said he is my son. My account statement was printed for me and I saw the transfer. I went to his mother’s house in Amikanle, but I was told that he was nowhere to be found.”

The 65-year-old, who noted that he regularly gave Richard money for upkeep, said he did not know the reason why he would steal from him.

He said the mother claimed not to know anything about the theft, adding that Richard threatened to deal with him if he did not leave his mother out of the matter.

Ade said when he reported the matter at the Alagolo Police Division, the police refused to arrest the mother, saying it was against the law to arrest a non-offender.

He lamented that he had nothing left and had been borrowing money from people to survive.

When Richard was contacted, he admitted to transferring the money, saying he used it to complete his school project.

The 22-year-old, however, claimed that he and his mother were neglected by his father.

He said,

“At first, I thought my father did not have money to take care of us. But later, I discovered that he just did not want to take care of us. He is always saying that I am not his son.

“My father is not computer literate; his phone is always with me. I realise that whenever he goes out, I will receive a debit alert on his phone. I told my mum that my dad had been withdrawing money; he just did not want to give us, but my mum said I should leave him alone.

“There was a day he went out and a debit alert message popped up on his phone and a friend said he saw him eating in a restaurant. He is not concerned about our wellbeing.

“Someone called me from school that I had to pay all the fees I owed and I asked my father for money. He said he did not have; it was my final year in school. I asked my mum, she had nothing to offer.

“Since I don’t want to have an extra year, I transferred N100,000 to pay for my school project and other fees. If I actually want to take his money, I will transfer everything and he will not see me again.”

Richard said his father did not notice that he transferred the money till after three months when he went to check his account balance in the bank.

He added that when his father confronted him about the money, he admitted to transferring it, adding that he told his father that he would pay back the money whenever he got a job.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, said the matter was reported to the police.

He said, “It is true that the matter was reported at the Alagolo Police Station; it is under investigation.”
