ECOWAS, NAE Partner On Quality Of Education For Member States - Education -

Knificent.blogspot.com .
The Nigerian Academy of Education (NAE) has expressed readiness to partner with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to lift the quality of education at all levels in the sub-region.

President of NAE, Professor Elizabeth Eke, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, said the collaboration would promote cooperation, exchange and support among ECOWAS member states.

Eke said the cooperation will be hinged on competence, priority and availability of required resources to ensure that the standard of education in West Africa becomes one of the best globally. She added that it would concentrate on higher education and training; youth, gender development and empowerment; language immersion; information and experience sharing; regional integration; academic mobility and related activities.

“This partnership makes it easy for us to facilitate exchange of information and documents of common interest that will ultimately lead to improved standards of education in West Africa,” she said.

She also disclosed that education stakeholders in the West African sub-region would converge on Abuja for the inaugural edition of the West Africa Education Conference from October 8-12, 2018.

The meeting, she revealed, will be attended by President Muhammadu Buhari, who is Chairman of ECOWAS, while the keynote address will be delivered by United Nations (UN) Under Secretary for West Africa, Muhammad Ibn Chambas, just as Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu and NAE will be hosts.

Eke added the meeting will be the first time West African countries will be coming together under one roof to discuss common issues, as they affect the standard of education in the sub-region.

“The conference, to be hosted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, will provide ECOWAS member countries the opportunity to deliberate on common educational issues like access to education, funding, shortage of teachers, infrastructure problems and education of displaced children, among others, with a view to proffering solutions to them,” she stated.

Chris Brown's babymama received '$20,000 gift from Floyd Mayweather' to start her company

Chris Brown's babymama received '$20,000 gift from Floyd Mayweather' to start her company

Chris Brown
Flamboyant retired boxer, Floyd Mayweather reportedly gave Chris Brown's babymama Nia Guzman '$20,000 gift to start her company.'

This was revealed in the wake of the ongoing legal battle between the ex-couple regarding a possible increase in child support for their 4-year-old daughter, Royalty.

During a recent deposition by Brown’s legal team, Nia Guzman said she only makes around $400 per month in income from RoyaltyBrown.com, an online clothing store inspired by their  daughter.

The Blast reported that Guzman revealed she started the company with a $20,000 gift from a friend, and when Brown’s lawyers asked about the investor, she would only say he was a “silent friend” that helped her start the business. She doubled down about not revealing the identity for the financial friend.

But after Brown’s legal team pressed and insisted the identity of the financial friend is revealed Guzman disclosed it was Floyd Mayweather, and that the two have “been friends for 10+ years.” Guzman says she knows Floyd’s child’s mother, too, and that they “all go back many years.”

According to her, the championship boxer “heard about the idea of me wanting to start the company, and he said that he would help with it at no cost.”

When asked how Mayweather found out about the business idea in the first place, Guzman answered, “I told him.”

It could also be recalled that Chris Brown and Floyd Mayweather fell out with each other last year,  after the undefeated boxing champion started training and publicly backing rapper Soulja Boy ahead of their celebrity boxing match which later didn't take place.

The clash even got nasty that Soulja Boy even put up a photo of Brown’s daughter wearing Mayweather’s “TMT” merchandise. Guzman also put up a photo of Royalty hanging out at Mayweather’s gym.

Nigerian Navy Deploys 16 Warships To Guard Oil Installations - Politics -

Knificent.blogspot.com .

The Nigerian Navy has deployed 16 newly bought ships to the Niger Delta to guard critical oil infrastructure, local media report, quoting the Chief of the Nigerian Naval Staff. Still, the official said, the Nigerian Navy has a long way to go to eliminate the vessel capacity shortage it has been suffering.

The oil industry of Nigeria is vital for the country, which makes pipeline vandalism and other militant activity in the Niger Delta all the more problematic. In August, a report from the Nigeria Natural Resource Charter revealed that the country had lost some US$7.23 billion (2.6 trillion naira) from oil theft in just two years, 2016 and 2017.

Data from Chatham House suggests that in addition to oil theft in the Delta, Nigeria is also losing US$1.5 billion a month from pirates stealing oil. The figure was confirmed by Nigeria’s Vice President and is equal to the daily export value of the crude shipped via the Forcados terminal.

Things are so bad that Nigeria has been ranked the worst performer globally in terms of oil theft, ahead of Mexico, Russia, and Iran. Until this year, the country also had a major problem with militants in the Delta, whose attacks on pipelines and export terminals suspended oil transport capacity for months.

And militants are not the only ones that interfere with Nigeria’s oil industry. Exxon’s Qua Iboe terminal is currently under a blockade from former employees of the local unit of the company, who were laid off in July. Since then, they have been protesting at Qua Iboe, and Exxon says if the blockade continues it could affect its production. Qua Iboe has a daily capacity of 300,000 bpd of crude.

Nigeria’s oil production fell by 160,000 bpd in the second quarter of the year, to an average daily of 1.84 million bpd, Nigerian media reported earlier today.

Buhari Declines Assent To Corporate Manslaughter Bill, 3 Others - Politics -

Knificent.blogspot.com .

ABUJA—PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has declined assent to Corporate Manslaughter Bill of 2018 and three other bills that were passed by the National Assembly and forwarded to him to sign into law.

Other bills that he refused to sign into law were the Courts and Tribunals (Standard Scale of Fines) Bill of 2017; National Child Protection and Enforcement Agency, NCPEA Bill of 2018 and Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme Fund (Amendment) Bill of 2018.

These were contained in separate letters to the Senate and dated July 9, 2018.

The letters were read, yesterday, during plenary by the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

According to the letter, on the National Child Protection and Enforcement Agency (NCPEA) (ESTABLSHMENT) BILL, 2018, the President said: “The rationale for declining assent includes all the proposed duties and responsibilities of the proposed agency are currently the statutory responsibilities of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs.

On the Courts and Tribunals (Standard Scale of Fines) Bill of 2017, the letter read: “Specifically, you may wish to note that the proposed standard scale of fines appears to be ambiguous, as it does not clearly state the manner by which any given offence will fall under a particular level on the scale.”

On Corporate Manslaughter Bill of 2018, Buhari said: “This provision appears to be inconsistent with Section 36(5) of the 1999 Constitution, which enshrines the presumption of innocence until the alleged offender is convicted by a court or tribunal of competent jurisdiction.”

On the Agriculture Credit Guarantee Scheme Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2018, President Buhari said: “My decision to decline Presidential Assent to the Bill is due to the fact that the increase in the fund size to N50 billion, which is a principal basis of the Bill will not be effective as currently drafted.”
