Sea Cow Rescued In Lagos (Photo) - Science/Technology -

Knificent.blogspot.com .Sesan Olufowobi

A manatee , popularly known as sea cow, has been found in a riverine community in the Agboyi - Ketu Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.

The Permanent Secretary , Ministry of Agriculture , Dr Olayiwole Onasanya, said immediately the ministry got the information, the state government moved to rescue the huge aquatic herbivorous mammal before residents could turn it to food.

He said the mammal was caught by the trap set by a fisherman in the area , adding that the government decided to rescue it because it was an endangered animal .

Onasanya said , “The mammal is an endangered species which breeds only a single calf once in two years. It is listed by the World Conservation Union as a specie vulnerable to extinction because of its meat , bones, and skin, which can bring wealth to poachers.

“ The mammals are in three species of West Indian, West Africa and Amazonia , with the highest population in Guinea -Bissau , the lagoon of Cote d’ voire, the southern portions of Niger River in Nigeria and the coastal lagoon of Gabon . ”

The permanent secretary added that the manatees measure up to 13 feet with as much weight as 590 kilogrammes , which graze on water plants in tropical seas and consume about 10 to 15 per cent of its body weight in vegetation .

He said the state government was committed to continuous formulation of policies geared towards the preservation of wild animals in order to boost the tourism potential of Lagos .

He noted that the manatee had been kept safely in the custody of Origin Zoo in the Ikorodu area of the state .

“ This animal can be a source of tourist attraction to the state if properly taken care of . To this end , the government has already taken all necessary steps in providing a conducive and habitable environment for the sea cow , ” Onasanya said .

The fisherman who trapped the mammal, David Oyenuro , said he was happy that the government rescued and had decided to preserve the animal .

He urged the government to continue to support fishermen , saying their fishing implements get damaged when they encounter huge aquatic animals such as the manatee .

Primate Ayodele To Igbo: Forget 2023 Presidency - Politics

Knificent.blogspot.com .
SAYS APC MUST KEEP AMBODE TO RETAIN LAGOS
Popular seer and founder, Inri Evangelical Spiritual Church, with headquarters in Lagos, Primate Elijah Ayodele, made public the 2018/2019 And Beyond: Warnings to the Nation. In this interview by KEHINDE OYETIMI, the prophet speaks on various sections of Nigeria’s polity as well as the international community.

Nigeria's Polity

I see a big fraud in NNPC. We will experience the things we have never experienced as a nation in 2019. Our economy is still under bondage. This government will re-strategise. But it won’t work. There will be troubles in the CBN. Let us pray against explosions at the CBN. Our naira will continue to wobble despite the things that they are injecting into it. The CBN should be careful not to be bereaved.

Let us pray for our telecommunications industry that one of the founders does not a major health challenge. 9Mobile will still change its name. I see someone taking it over. The telecommunications sector will continue to have problems with the government.

The Boko Haram issue is not yet over. There are other terrorists that are grooming themselves and Nigeria is among the countries that they intend to invade. That is what God is showing me. Let us pray against unnecessarily deaths in the Nigerian army; let us also pray against mutiny in the army. Let us pray not to lose a senior police officer between the ranks of CP and DIG. There are some volatile states that the government must look into: Lagos, Ogun, Oyo states.

We must pray against terminal diseases, water diseases, and Ebola. Ebola is not yet over. We will record outbreak in Nigeria and other African nations. Let us pray against gas explosion and attacks on our pipelines. Let us pray against lack of petroleum between December and February. Let us pray for our stock market. Some companies will have problems there.

In its war with the senate, there will be several bills that the president will not sign. Many people ran to the APC because they are being threatened. They are not there with their mind. Let us pray for our traditional rulers.

Lagos and Ambode

Since 2017, I have said it repeatedly that Governor Ambode’s second term will not come on a silver platter. His deputy governor will be changed but I see controversies surrounding the office of the deputy governor. If they change Ambode as the party’s candidate, APC will lose Lagos State. Ambode will deliver Lagos State to the APC. Let them leave Ambode alone whatever he might have done. He will make Lagos greater in his second term. But is Ambode ready to fight for his second term? A time will come in the future that a new leadership will emerge in Lagos State. If the party does not settle the wrangling in their midst, APC will see fire in that state.

Ogun, Oyo and Imo

APC will have problems in Ogun State as well because the Yewa agenda in APC will not work. If care is not taken, if PDP and ADC bring out a good candidate, they will win in Ogun State.

In Oyo State, APC will have problems. They have to settle their problems immediately. APC’s victory in the coming election is shaky in Oyo State. In Delta State, the governor will have a lot of issues. If APC desires to win in Delta State, they should use the former speaker (one Victor) of the state House of Assembly during Uduaghan’s tenure as governor. He is the one who can deliver. The APC crisis in Imo State will escalate. PDP can win Imo State if they bring out the right candidate. If PDP desires to win in Imo, they should put aside sentiment and pick the choice of the people.

The forthcoming 2019 elections will be different from the 2015 elections. The elections will be tough. The fight will be serious. People will come out en mass to vote. Nobody will allow rigging. But the security agencies and INEC will cause a lot of problems; selling of votes, using security to terrorise people, thugs to hijack constituencies will be major problems. The South-West should not underestimate the ADC, especially in Ogun, Oyo and even Lagos. Akeredolu may not get second term in Ondo State. There will be cracks in his government which he will not want to recognise until the last minute. Yahaya Bello of Kogi State will have issues because the people will fight against him.

God has power and he gives power. God has given PDP to Saraki and he is the one who will unseat Buhari. I don’t know Saraki; I have not met him. The impeachment of Saraki will cause a lot of problems in the National Assembly. There will be pandemonium. Removing him will create a lot trouble but many people will not understand the implications. I am not saying that the Senate should not impeach him. I am actually speaking the mind of God. I said it in 2015 that Saraki would not end his term in the Senate as an APC member. APC will still disintegrate. Allowing those people to defect to APC will cause serious problems for the party.

Tinubu is a fantastic politician but he has not seen anything yet. I see a major war between the loyalists of Tinubu and those of Buhari. Mark my words. Despite Tinubu’s efforts for this government, he will not be given his due regards.

PDP and its future

At the federal level, let the PDP ensure that their presidential primary is free and fair. If it is free and fair, I still repeat it that Saraki is a big factor. It doesn’t matter where he is coming from. There are many factors that are on ground. Let there be transparency and let the appropriate winner be recognised. The core North assumption might not work. It was the same thing that happened during Jonathan’s time. God blessed him and asked him to take over. There are many mysteries surrounding the 2015 election. It is beyond human comprehension. The Saraki factor is also beyond human reasoning. Let PDP engage in free, fair primaries. If Saraki gets that ticket, it will be over for the APC. He is the anointed person that can push PDP to the next level. They should fortify that party.

Look at Donald Trump of the USA. He will not have a second term and he will be faced with many problems. I have predicted it in my book how Trump will handle African nations. If care is not taken, Trump will destroy so many things even for America. The US economy will not go as expected. The US Senate will be rubbished. So many things will happen. The immigration law will not be in order. America is in serious trouble. In my book, Warning to The Nations, published in March this year, I predicted the death of John McCain.

The Igbos cannot get 2023. They are being deceived. I see a major referendum. Our security is still under threat. I must say this. Buhari is not well. He is not okay. He must watch his health. His decision to force himself to go for a second term will cause calamity for the nation. There are many things that the APC is doing that are completely wrong. So many things will come up which is why the PDP must quickly fortify its name.

If Fayose had listened to warnings, he would have remained relevant. But his ignorance would not allow him. He is arrogant. He would have been reigning now. God brought in opposition within the ruling government. This government does not like to hear the truth. It is too desperate, too selfish. Nigeria will use nuclear source to power our energy. Our energy sector is not right at the moment. Whatever I say, I know many people will push it aside.

Sports

Amaju Pinnick’s relevance is closed in the NFF. He will not come back to the NFF. I don’t even see him on that seat anymore because if he comes back, he will jeopardise our sports sector completely. Let us pray not to lose any prominent person in our sports sector. Our sports sector will experience a rebirth.

Foreign scene

The president of Benin Republic will face sanctions. The people will go on protests against him. I see a lot of corruption in that government. His second term in office is not certain. He will do everything to clip the wings of the opposition so as not to contest against him. His health is not strong.

Ghana’s president should work seriously on the economy otherwise their forex may collapse. There will be problems in the country’s economy. He should work tirelessly to achieve a second term in office.

The British government should be careful because Theresa May will face challenges towards the end of her term. Terrorism is not yet over in Britian; they also want to attack America. The facts between Russia and Trump will be revealed. There is no way that Trump will not be rubbished. Israel, Syria should watchful against unrest. North Korea and America will still have issues.

Northerners Are More Politically Enlightened Than Southerners -Tony Momoh - Politics -

Knificent.blogspot.com .

Prince Tony Momoh, a national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC ) and former Minister of Information in this interview with TEMIDAYO AKINSUYI speaks on the chances of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 presidential election and other issues of national interests. Excerpts:

Afenifere and some civil society groups are asking President Muhammadu Buhari to reject the N45.5million APC presidential nomination form bought for him by a shadowy group, Nigeria Consolidation Ambassadors Network (NCAN). What is your perspective on this?

That is an expression of opinion. Afenifere and the other groups that are talking, are they members of APC? So, people have a right to comment on what is happening in the environment in which they live. I don’t grudge them and I can’t deny them of their right to freedom of expression. People bought forms for Buhari, it is for him to accept or not to accept. I don’t see anything wrong in anybody showing interest. Atiku Abubakar even shed tears and broke down emotionally when people presented him with PDP nomination form because he was overwhelmed by that show of love. So, it depends. Some people can even say ‘No, I don’t want the free forms. I am going to look for money myself’. Buhari may thank the group and say he doesn’t want and he may accept it and show gratitude. If I am Buhari, I will say thank you for the assistance. But I am not Buhari. So, it is left for the President to react on whether to accept the gesture or not.

But do you think it is morally right for people to purchase free forms for politicians?

What is wrong in that? The truth is that no one man can fund an election. You need help from others. Do you know what it cost to even say you want to be an elected person at any level even as a councilor? If you know that as a councilor, within 18 months, you can build a house and then buy a Jeep, what will you not do to accept that office? That is why I have been asking for restructuring which will make politics a service and not a business. But today, it is a business. It is only people like President Buhari who are unique in themselves because of their attitude to service where at the presidential primaries of the APC in Lagos in 2014, he said ‘People may want Dollars or Naira, I don’t have. Even if I have, I won’t give’. That is when money was flowing all over the place among the aspirants to the delegates; $2,000 per delegates. Yet, despite not giving out money, Buhari still won. This monetising of politics is what a lot of people are fighting against when they said there should be direct primaries instead of indirect. In Osun state, some delegates were even demanding N750,000, so we had to have a direct primary where all the party members voted. So, making politics less expensive is a task that we must attend to but as it is right now, it is a very expensive business.

You once said President Buhari will score more than 25 percent votes in the South- South and South- East. Given recent defections by key stakeholders in the region to your party, do you see your predictions coming true?

I have always told you that there are indicators to assess now so that by the time the results are declared, nobody will say the election was rigged. In 2015, it is only in my state, Edo that Buhari scored more than 25 percent. He had 46 percent of votes. All other states in the South- South and South- East, he did not get up to 15 percent votes anywhere. But this time, he will have more votes in those regions than he had in 2015. First of all, the results in those places were packaged; they were just written up and I know that.

How do you know that the results were written up?

They were written up. In the case of Anambra, Imo and other places, how can the president have 98 percent votes? There was no state where he had less than 97 percent votes yet the governors of those states did not have up to 60 percent votes. That is because the results were written up.

But people have always contested the results Buhari got in the North too that the result in Kano was written up. What is your perspective on that?

I can assure you there is massive voting in the North. In our area, during the 2011 presidential election, information came that the political leaders have decided that the region should be delivered to Goodluck Jonathan. I was the national chairman of Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) that time. Then we agreed that let our people vote according to their conscience. So, the writing up of results did not affect our area and we had the highest vote for Buhari in the whole of the South. We had about 29,000 votes but in all other places, they just wrote up the results. The whole of the South- West was overrun by the PDP because there was an agreement between CPC and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) but it did not bear fruit. Even ACN then did not support their presidential candidate, Nuhu Ribadu. It was only Osun state that supported Ribadu. Even in Adamawa, Ribadu lost. We didn’t have money to have agents in the South-West, so many of CPC votes were packaged in Ghana-must-go bags and thrown away. PDP overran the South- West because in fairness, if there was an agreement between ACN and CPC, ACN had no obligation than to protect our votes in the South West because they didn’t even pay agents to protect their own votes. They abandoned Ribadu. Later, after the 2011 election, we decided that the only way to achieve meaningful results is not through alliances but through merger. I, national chairman of CPC we dissolved our party. ACN also dissolved their party, ANPP also did the same and we merged into APC. That is why I tell you that PDP forming CUPP, it cannot work unless they dissolve and call themselves CUPP; one party with one symbol. You will see, when primaries start, everything will scatter. Alliances can be broken even on the eve of election. So, it is a big sacrifice to dissolve yourself and merge into one group. That is why I said all these talks about youth coming together in 2019 is a fallacy, they won’t come together. PDP has about 15 aspirants but only one will emerge and I am telling you that one who emerges will have to look for money to prosecute federal election. None of them is going to bring his own money to say they want to support him. Again, the centre which PDP controlled and were raiding as the ruling party is no longer there to control now. In the South- South and South- East, people of high caliber are moving into APC. So, what we expect is that Buhari coming and winning in 2015 is because of the massive contribution of the South West which allow for the presence of 25 percent spread. We are going to have at least 25 percent votes because there is hardly any state in the South- South and South- East where Buhari will not have up to 25 percent. That is certain. And if there is going to be any rigging, it will not work because Buhari has said nobody should rig for him. if there is going to be any rigging, it will be in the favour of the incumbent, so we don’t have a disadvantage. Those who were rigging before and writing up results cannot now write up results for anybody and if they do, it will be for Buhari but the President have said nobody should write up results for me. If I lose, I will go. ‘

In the North, in spite of what anybody is saying, since 2003, Buhari has been winning the North even when there were PDP governors. So, why do you think it will change now that majority of the Northern governors are APC? They said they are fielding a northern candidate, what difference will that make?

So in essence, are you saying all the votes President Buhari scored in the North during the 2015 elections were legitimate, none was written up for him?

Yes, all his votes are legitimate. None was written up for him. In fact, his votes were deducted in 2011. I protested to INEC. They had in the computer a programmed to deduct votes and they said it was a mistake. In Kano, 10 percent of the votes were deducted especially when there was counting. We said they should count physically. They did that but votes counted physically were different from the others. In Katsina, it was the same thing. INEC admitted it was a programming error. The 2011 election was rigged yet we had that number of votes. Let me say this with all sense of responsibility that the Northerners, you can say they are illiterate but they are more politically enlightened than the average Southern voters. If you see the Fulani herdsman, one thing he has apart from his stick is a radio and he is listening to Hausa service. You have Hausa service in BBC, Radio France, Germany, Russia and America. The Northerners listen to radio more than they watch television or read newspapers. It was Maiguard (security guard) here in Lagos who told me that MKO Abiola had died on July 7 1998. I said no, they were talking of the man being released. He said BBC said Abiola has died. And it turned out to be true. That is my own maiguard. In the whole of the northern belt, from Cameroun down to Senegal, they speak Hausa. When I was Minister, I used Radio Kaduna short wave to reach Voice of Nigeria. So, let us not deceive ourselves, these people are more politically enlightened than the average Southerners. When it is time for voters registration, they go home to register. When it is time for election, they go home to vote. How many of my people here travel home to vote during elections? Look at social media for example. A lot of our people are very active on social media but social media don’t vote. Those who manage social media should go and have their PVC. It is only PVC that gives you what you want through expression of your civic right by voting. On the day of election, some of the elites don’t even get out to queue and vote. We sit down in our house and watch televisions. More than 80 million people have been registered by INEC to vote but I am telling you, not up to 40 million people will vote nationwide. So, northerners are more politically enlightened than us.

Electoral Act: Presidency Begs NASS To Reconvene - Politics -

Knificent.blogspot.com .

Abuja – Following controversies raised over President Muhammadu Buhari’s failure to assent to the 2018 Electoral (Amendment) Act, the presidency has made a strong appeal to the leadership of the National Assembly to reconvene.

Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, made the appeal on Sunday, saying the president was not averse to card readers or e-voting system as being speculated in some quarters.

Recall that Buhari declined assent to the amendment Act on the ground that the document contained some ambiguous clauses which needed to be reviewed.

Shehu expressed displeasure on some of the controversies trailing the document and absolved the presidency of any fault.

“We appeal to the National Assembly to reconvene as soon as possible to consider and approve the necessary corrections to the amended Electoral Act,” he stated.

He said the presidency rejects the allegations, especially from the opposition class as well as some newspaper editorial opinions creating the impression that President Muhammadu Buhari is against e-voting, the use of card readers in the upcoming elections, hence his decision to decline assent, for the third time, to the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill 2018.

He explained that the president wanted engagement with the parliament for the corrections to be effected so that, at the end of the day, both arms of government will be happy with the fact that a good electoral law is in place.

He said the government wishes to state in clear and unambiguous terms that the issue of e-voting and use of card readers was never an issue for the president’s decision to decline assent to the Bill.

It is equally important that this issue was not raised either by the executive or the legislature in the recent reviews, he noted.

Moreover, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) adoption of e-voting reforms is enshrined in the 2015 Amendment Act to the Electoral Reform Act, Shehu said, noting that card reader is therefore a settled matter. The president’s recent decision to decline assent to the Bill has no effect whatsoever on INEC’s use of card readers, he noted.

“Regrettably, purveyors of ‘fake news’ have been quick to churn out sensational headlines such as that of a leading newspaper, which screamed, ‘Card Reader in Jeopardy, Buhari Rejects Electoral Act Amendment Bill Again.’

An issue has been raised by the president concerning some ill-prepared and flawed parts of the bill for which corrections needed to be made to allow for his signature.

While absolving the president of any blame, Shehu said Buhari was not in confrontation with the parliament on this issue.

He said the president has also asked his officials to dialogue with the legislature for the corrections to be effected. As for his alleged rejection of the card reader, nothing can be farther from the truth, he noted.

“The president is the country’s number one fan of the card reader. For a candidate who ran three times and ‘lost’ in an electoral environment in which votes were allocated and losers asked to go to court if they felt unhappy, the president knows fuly well the role that the card reader played in his emergence in 2015.

“He has said times without number that he would strengthen and widen its application in the country and this, he is determined to do.

“Accordingly, we would like to appeal, especially to the media to disregard baseless allegations against the president, even as he puts in his best efforts in working with the National Assembly to give the nation a good electoral law, and in time.

“The card reader is not in danger of being discarded. It is a sine qua non for credible elections,” the presidency explained.
