Contrary to claims that Governor Rochas okorocha of Imo State, is reconsidering shifting his support for his Chief of Staff and son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, to succeed him in office on the platform of the All Progressives Congress(APC), the governor has rather maintained that he is still solidly behind him.

It was alleged that governor Okorocha, in a bid to hearken to the popular voices in the state against his support for Nwosu, had opted for the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. George Eche, who allegedly got the governor’s nod to obtain interest and nomination form to contest for the same position with Nwosu under the same party.


But in a press statement credited to his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, the governor denied asking Eche to contest for top seat, insisting that he is not aware of the SSG’s gubernatorial aspiration.

According to the statement “And if Mr. Eche is actually contesting the governorship, he is doing so as an Imo man or as a Nigerian exercising his constitutional rights and that has nothing to do with the governor.”

The statement further reads “Before now, what Mr. Eche had told the governor was that he was going to contest the House of Representatives for Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency, and if he has changed his mind for another position, the governor does not know.

“It is also important to advise Mr. Eche to stop further dropping of the governor’s name. If he has decided to Ccontest for the governorship of thes, he should do so without dropping the governor’s name.”

And whether he is under any pressure to drop Nwosu for another aspirant, Okorocha noted in the statement, “For the sake of emphasis, the governor is not under any pressure over the governorship bid of Chief Uche Nwosu.

“Nwosu has collected his nomination forms, and will face APC delegates for the primary and if he wins the primary, he will face Imo electorate in the election proper. And if Imo people elect him to be their governor, so shall it be.

“That is to say, Uche Nwosu’s fate over the governorship of the state will be decided by the Almighty God first, then APC delegates for the primary and Imo people at the main election. So, the issue of the governor being under pressure over Nwosu’s governorship aspiration is neither here nor there”

Meanwhile , the state’s chairman of APC, Daniel Nwafor, has maintained that the party is only aware of one gubernatorial aspirant so far that has purchase the party’s interest and nomination form, and that he is Nwosu.

Briefing journalists, on Monday, at the party secretariat, in Owerri, Nwafor maintained that Eche was yet to intimate the party of his interest to run for the governorship seat under APC.

Similarly, the Nwafor recognised ecxecutive of the party has warned Sen. Hope Uzodinma to stop parading himself as a member of the APC, stressing that he (Uzodinma) is yet to be recognised at the ward and local government level of the party.


According to Nwafor, “Hope Uzodinma is not a member of APC , the ward chairman of Omuma where he came from has not informed us that he has registered with them, likewise the LG chairmen, even Hope has not declared on the floor of the senate”

Nwafor also warned Uzodinma against parading himself as the leader of the party in the state, maintaining that the party has only one leader in the person of Governor Okorocha.

The state Local Government chairman of APC, Jerry Madubueze, also denied Uzodinma as a registered member of the area.

Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri reveals the only person who can make him quit smoking

Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri who is a chain-smoker has revealed the only person who can make him quit smoking.

The 59-year-old Italian who was known for chain-smoking on the touchline and smoke about five packs every day during his time in Italy, says the only one person who can make him even think about quitting is his father, Amerigo. 

Sarri told Il Mattino: 'When my father learned I had this offer (from Chelsea), he told me to go to London, that it was the right thing to do.

'He did ask me to stop smoking at least while I'm here. He is the only one who for five minutes can make me wobble in my convictions.'

Due to the fact that smoking is prohibited inside English football stadiums, Sarri has been forced to abandon his matchday habit, and only uses what appear to be plastic cigarette filters.

On Sunday September 9th, actress Eucharia Anunobi was joined by her friends and family for the one year memorial/thanksgiving service of her son, Raymond Ekwu, who passed away in August last year. He was 15 years old.

Raymond died after a long battle with sickle cell anemia.

85% of mad people in Nigeria are youths - Dr Aliyu Abubakar

Dr Aliyu Abubakar of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria, has said that the youths account for over 85 per cent of mentally deragned people in Nigeria.



Abubakar made the remark in a paper he presented at a sensitisation workshop for youths organised by Bizara Youth Development Association in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State entitled: “Drug Abuse in Nigeria: Causes, Effects and Solutions.”

He said: “according to a recent study, 85 per cent of mad people in Nigeria are youths within the age bracket of 18-38 years.

The major cause of mental challenge in Nigeria has gone beyond drug-abuse as the youths now inhale lizard feces, putting their noses into pit toilets, smoking matches, smoking dried horse feces and mixing lizard feces with dye powder.

Drug abuse disorder is a common problem affecting about 5 per cent of the of the world population with an estimated 10.2 per cent in the USA.”

He recalled that in Nigeria, it was recently reported that about three million bottles of cough syrup containing codeine is consumed daily in Kano State and about six million bottles consumed in the North-West. Abubakar added that in 2016, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency reported that about 40 per cent of Nigerian youths engaged in drug-abuse.



The medical doctor stressed that the consequences of drug-abuse include mental disorder, liver cirrhosis, lethargy and cardiovascular disorder among others. Abubakar added that those abusing drugs mostly drop out of school, engage in cultism, violence, arm-robbery, thuggery, rape, lawlessness, murders and are culturally disorientated.

The couple took various photos during the event and shared on their respective social media accounts but the one that got people talking is one taken by Alexi Lubomirski, the same photographer who took Meghan and Harry's engagement photo. 

In the photo, Jonas is seen sitting on a chair while Priyanka sits on the ground, leans against his legs, and they hold hands, with Priyanka flaunting her engagement ring. The pose is pretty much similar to Harry and Meghan's engagement photo taken by the same photographer who took Priyanka and Jonas'.

Priyanka and Meghan Markle are best friends and Priyanka was present at Meghan's wedding to Prince Harry on May 19.

Transgender woman charged with raping female inmates in Prison

A transgender woman serving at an all-female UK prison has been charged after she sexually assaulted four inmates at the facility.

According to The Sun, the convicted sex offender Karen White, 52, who was born a man and identifies as a woman, confessed this week to two counts of sexual touching at New Hall Prison, in Wakefield. But she denied the two other counts, according to the report.

All of the assaults happened last year, between September and November, prosecutors said.

During her hearing a Leeds Crown Court, she also pleaded guilty to the rape of a woman back in August 2003, when she went by her male name, Stephen Wood. 

She was also jailed back in 2001 for assault and gross indecency with a child.

The Sun also reported that in August she pleaded guilty to two counts of raping another woman between February and December of 2016. And during those periods she allegedly took advantage of more women.

In one of the assaults, White stood close to another inmate, touched her arm and exposed herself, prosecutor Charlotte Dangerfield told the court.

Her relationship with that inmate became inappropriate soon after she arrived at the jail, Dangerfield alleged, according to the report.

“The defendant would stand very close to her, touch her arm and wink at her,” the prosecutor said. “Her penis was erect and sticking out of the top of her trousers.”

In the second assault, she reportedly made comments about oral sex before placing a female inmate’s hand on her left breast, over her padded bra, the outlet reported.

Just days later, White allegedly pushed her hips and penis against another prisoner and in the most recent incident, she reportedly kissed an inmate on the neck, Dangerfield said.

White had initially told the court that she could not be guilty because she was not attracted to women and had been suffering from erectile dysfunction.

White who started identifying as a woman in 2014, was transferred to HM Prison Leeds, a men’s jail, after the alleged assaults.

Judge Christopher Batty adjourned her sentencing until Oct. 11 to gather victim statements and determine whether she posed any danger, according to the report.
