24 Die Of Snake Bites In Gombe - Health -

Knificent.blogspot.com .

The Snake Bite Treatment and Research Centre in Kaltungo, Gombe State, says it has recorded 24 deaths out of the 1,829 cases of snake bites recorded between January and August.

The officer in charge of the centre, Abubakar Ballah, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaltungo on Monday.

He said the 24 deaths recorded were due to the lateness in reporting cases to the hospital, with many of the patients admitted in critical conditions.

“Today is September 10 and we have 84 patients in our records currently receiving treatment and probably more patients will come before the month ends.

“The cases are on the increase because of the downpour which dislodges snakes from their holes to seek higher ground because they do not like wet environment.

“They climb trees, maize or millet to keep away from water; that is the reason why people are severely bitten,’’ he said.

He said apart from farmers, herdsmen who climb trees to cut leaves for their livestock are also at risk as well as those who go to the bush to fetch firewood.

Mr Ballah appealed to farmers to refrain from staying late in their farms, saying snakes often come out in the evening to look for prey.

He also lamented the attitude of treating victims at home with the use of herbs until the condition had deteriorated.

“We are calling on their relatives to stop giving snake bite victims herbs because some of the herbs cause the person to vomit, thereby making the condition to deteriorate.
“The only first aid you can give to a snake bite patient is paracetamol and then you rush to the hospital.

“We have drugs in sufficient quantity and enough backing by the state government.

“Even though some of the patients we receive come from the neighbouring states, they receive treatment free of charge like indigenes,’’ he said.

How Did You Cope When You Lost Your Job? - Career -

Knificent.blogspot.com .

The feeling is very bad when this happens? You feel like it's the end of the world. It feels hard starting to look for another and getting it feels like impossible.

How did you cope when you lost your job?

How many weeks, months and years did it take for you to eventually get another one?

Were you always sitting at home and applying online or were you always going out, trekking from one company to another, with your CVs and Credentials, seeking for job? Have in mind that most companies don't accept hard copies......they will always refer you online and that's if they are recruiting.

For someone who just lost his job and has experience, not being able to complete his rent(landlord always calling and threatening) No connection, No hope of getting another job anytime soon.......What will you advise such a person?

Matured minds pls!

“We said each governor will contribute N2 million each and we travelled to China and it was in China I told the president that some group have purchased the form for you. So who will buy my own for me?

Another Economic Recession May Be Eminent, Says FSDH - Politics -

Knificent.blogspot.com .

By Sunday Michael Ogwu,

The Nigerian economy will require more deliberate policy measures and engagements than the current responses in order to avert another recession, experts at the First Securities Discount House Limited (FSDH) have warned.

In an interview with journalists last weekend, the Head of Research, Ayodele Akinwunmi, noted that the real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate of 1.50% recorded in Q2 2018 was below the expectations of most analysts.

Akinwunmi said: “The current low GDP growth rate is not strong enough to stimulate credit creation. It has also increased the risk of doing business in Nigeria. Therefore, urgent measures are required so that low GDP growth rate does not become a new norm in Nigeria.”

Agriculture, which is the largest sector of the Nigerian economy at 22.86%, recorded a marginal growth of only 1.19%.

FSDH Research notes that the slow growth in the agriculture sector, if not checked, may lead to food shortage in the country and consequently escalating food prices and rising inflation rate.

Trade, which is the second largest sector of the Nigerian economy, contracted by 2.14% and also entered a recession in Q2 2018.
“The weak purchasing power in the country is responsible for the contraction in the Trade sector.

Improvement in the business environment that can lead to job creation and payment of salaries of workers, particularly among the state civil servants, will stimulate purchasing power,” he said.

FSDH Research observes strong growth in the information and communication and construction sectors of the economy.

The shortfall in crude oil production is weighing down on the external reserves from the full benefits of the favourable crude oil prices in the international market.

Maradona Signed To Dorados de Sinaloa Club Where Drug Kingpin El Chapo Reigned - Sports -

Knificent.blogspot.com .
Argentina football legend, Diego Maradona has been unveiled has new coach of Mexican side Dorados de Sinaloa. The club which plays in Mexico's second tier is located in Culiacán in the northwestern province of Sinaloa, a region blighted with violence related to the Mexican drug cartels.

Culiacán is infamous as the hometown of the Sinaloa cartel — one of the world's most powerful drug trafficking organisations. It was formerly run by the notorious Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, who is now awaiting trial in the US.

The news of Dorado's signing of 57-year-old Maradona to a drug plagued region drew attention due to his past struggles with addiction.

Addressing reporters at the press conference during his unveiling, Maradona didn't shy away from his past.

"When I was using I was falling apart," he said.

"It was a step backwards and a footballer always has to go forward."

Thanking his daughters for finally quitting cocaine, he went on: "I was left without a cent."

He said his youngest daughter — who was four at the time — convinced him to keep going.

Maradona added: "When I was in a coma she touched my bedsheet to wake me up."
