Mexican rescue dog credited with saving 12 lives and locating over 40 bodies has retired after nine years of service (Photos)

A rescue dog who gained international fame for her heroics after an earthquake hit Mexico in 2017 has retired after nine years of service. 

The Mexican Navy canine unit held a ceremony on Monday to honour Golden Labrador Frida who has taken part in 53 rescue operations across Mexico, Haiti, Guatemala and Ecuador.

The navy has credited Frida with saving 12 people's lives and locating more than 40 bodies. "Her bark always gave hope, and in moments of pain and uncertainty she brought relief," said Deputy Naval Minister Eduardo Redondo.

Images of Frida clad in a protective eye mask, searching through the rubble of a school in Mexico City, drew worldwide attention and became a symbol of hope for Mexico after the earthquake, which killed more than 300 people.  

Now aged 10, her handlers have hung up her famous mask and boots and presented her with a chew toy for the next chapter of her life.

Greek-Based Nigerian NBA star, Giannis Antetokounmpo who plays for Milwaukee Bucks basketball team in the US was last night named the Most Valuable Player in NBA. 

The 24-year-old forward born in Greece to Nigerian migrant parents reduced to tears as he beat Paul Georgeof the Oklahoma City Thunder and James Harden of the Houston Rockets to win Most Valuable Player honors.

Antetokounmpo received 941 points and 78 first-place votes in the balloting ahead of Harden who finished second with 776 points and 23 first-place votes.

I just needed a child to call me mother, Jos baby thief confesses

Mrs. Leritshimwa Diyal, the 32-year-old woman, who has confessed to stealing a three-day-old baby in Plateau Specialist Hospital, jos has said that the desire to have a child, who would call her mother, pushed her into committing the crime.

Diyal, a student of College of Health Technology, Zawan, in Plateau, made the confession while speaking with newsmen when she was paraded by the Plateau Police Command on Thursday in jos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the baby belonging to one Mrs. Mary Chukwuebuka of Zaramangada area of jos was stolenthree days after she put to bed at the Plateau Specialist Hospital.

When the matter was reported to the headquarters of the Plateau Police Command in jos, it immediately commenced investigation which led to the arrest of the suspect.

NAN also recalls that Diyal, before her arrest, had claimed that she gave birth at a kidnappers’ den.

Man fatally stabs lady he picked up for the night in Jos (photos)

The Plateau state police command has arrested 33 year old Islamil Oladipo pictured above, for stabbing a prostitute to death.

While being paraded, the police said Oladipo picked up the lady in the night of May 31st with the hope of having sex with her. However, in the middle of the night, he stabbed her with a knife which led to her death.

In an interview with newsmen, Oladipo said he stabbed the lady in self defence.

''My name is Ismail Oladipo, I am 33 years old. I work with Moulds Nigeria limited, I live in Millionaires quarters. On 31st May 2019, I went to West of Mines to pick up a lady. She agreed to collect 3000 naira for the night. Around 11pm, she attempted to stab me with a knife. I don't know where she got the knife, I overpowered her and stabbed her to death in self defence. I am regretting my action right now and I beg her family to forgive me" he said

The police say he will be charged to court soon.
