'We have watched with frustration as the team's football performances declined over the past decade" - Arsenal fans write open letter to owner, Stan Kroenke

In an unprecedented protest, the leading Arsenal fans’ groups and influential blogs have joined forces today to call on the club’s owner, Stan Kroenke, to “reinvigorate” a footballing institution that has fallen into stasis with regression on the field, a lack of ambition in the transfer market and supporters never feeling “more marginalised, less listened to or valued”.

See the full protest letter below...
As Arsenal fans we have watched with frustration as the team’s football performances have declined over the past decade. When Stan Kroenke began buying Arsenal shares the club had just competed in a first Champions League final. Twelve years on, Arsenal are about to play in the Europa League for the third year running.
Off the pitch, fans have never felt more marginalised, less listened to or valued. This was sadly illustrated when Stan Kroenke forcibly bought out the last remaining supporter- shareholders without even a word of appreciation for their custodianship role in the club. It feels as though Arsenal is at a crossroads. Things need to change.
What all of us as signatories to this statement want to see is meaningful action by Stan Kroenke to reinvigorate our football club.
This requires work to strengthen the club’s board and football executive and to once again make Arsenal a place where fans have a real sense of belonging.
Change needs to start with better leadership. In his takeover document Stan Kroenke said:
‘KSE’s ambitions for the club are to see it competing consistently to win the Premier League
and the Champions League.’

AFCON: 282 Held Over Unrest In France After Algeria Beat Nigeria - Sports -

A total of 282 people were arrested in France after unrest following the Algerian football team’s qualification for the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, the interior ministry said Monday.
Riotous celebrations erupted across the country after Algeria beat Nigeria 2-1 in the semi-final. The arrests were made nationwide on Sunday evening, the ministry said.

Out of those arrested, 249 people were placed in custody, it added.

When Algeria defeated Ivory Coast to reach the semi-finals on Thursday, fans went on the rampage in central Paris, looting shops.
On the same day in the southern city of Montpellier, an Algerian football supporter celebrating his team’s win lost control of his car while travelling at high speed and ran over a family, killing a woman and seriously injuring her baby.

Paris and Marseille are home to large minority communities of Algerian origin. Football celebrations, with supporters brandishing large national flags, have on occasion been a source of tensions.
We should work on our team and stop thinking of this.
