Miss England 2019, Bhasha Mukherjee, has decided to hang up her crown and return to work as a doctor during the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.

The 24-year-old took a career break as a junior doctor after competing in the Miss World pageant in December 2019.

In 1918, a pandemic virus, called the Spanish flu blew across the world like the current coronavirus and killed at least 50 million people. In Nigeria, then under colonial rule, an estimated 500,000 died.

There is a striking similarity between the two pandemics in the way they affected Nigeria: both were brought in by travellers.

A little over a century ago, the old killer virus was brought in by travellers arriving by ship from England. Fast forward to the present; travellers arriving by planes from Europe and United States are the chief vectors of the new virus.

A colourful masquerade has been arrested by the police for defying the government’s directive on mass gatherings.

The masquerade after being arrested, couldn’t hold back tears after realizing the problem he has entered.

Ogun state had effected stay-at-home measures as part of measures to stop the spread of coronavirus.

The masquerade was apprehended after it confronted the policemen and threatened to deal with them if they dispersed his followers.

The arrest was contained in a statement on Monday by Policeman spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi.

The Deputy governor of Lagos state, Obafemi Hamzat, was on TVC this morning where he revealed that the Italian man diagnosed with the first case of Coronavirus in Nigeria, went to Ewekoro in Ogun state before he fell ill and was brought to Lagos where he was diagnosed with the virus.

This young man came in from Italy, Milan. He came in on the 25th. He has a consultancy job with a company in Ogun state. He landed on the 26th, went to Ewkoro and then he fell ill and the doctors were smart enough to say this is somebody that is coming from Italy that has just suddenly fell ill. So they took him in. So we sent an ambulance there with a pep jacket. So they brought him in and then he was diagonised.

Nigerian footballer, King Udoh, tests positive to Coronavirus in Italy

22-year-old Italian-Nigerian footballer, King Udoh, has tested positive to the coronavirus (Covid-19).

According to reports, Udoh who plays professional football with Pianese, an Italian Serie C side team, is currently in the infectious disease department of La Scotte hospital in Siena and is said to be in good condition. They quarantined him last weekend after he started feeling feverish.

Italy is the European country most affected by the Coronavirus epidemic.
