Boy, 7, marries his mother in a lavish ceremony

A 7-year-old boy married his mother in a lavish Disney-themed wedding to fulfil his last wish.

Logan Mountcastle was diagnosed with an incurable genetic disorder in December. The 7-year-old was found to be suffering from Leukodystrophy, which affects the brain and nervous system, and was told he has anywhere between 3 and 15 years to live.

The family first noticed something might be wrong when Logan fell over last summer, started walking to one side, and complained his “brain was hurting”. At first, doctors said nothing was wrong, and that he was a normal little boy. But an MRI scan eventually found him to be suffering from incurable Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD).

Logan's last wish was to have a wedding and his family granted him his wish. Dozens of friends and family turned up to Gainsborough Liberal Club in Lincolnshire to witness Logan get "married" to his mum, Joelean, in a Beauty and the Beast-style event. Guests were reduced to tears as little Logan, dressed as  dashing prince, went down the aisle with Joelean, who said she was “overwhelmed” by the lovely day.

Instead of reading traditional wedding vows, Joelean made a promise to Logan, telling him she would always keep him safe.

Methodist minister Louise Carr said: “Obviously it is not a wedding really, it’s a family blessing and with promises to look after each other. It was privilege to be involved.”

17-year-old girl cuts off boyfriend’s manhood in Jigawa

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence, NSCDC has arrested a 17-year-old girl, Ramatu Tafida, who cut off her 25-year-old boyfriend's penis in Babura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

AC Adamu Shehu, the corps Spokesman in the state, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Dutse on Saturday, identified the victim as Abdullahi Sabo, a resident of Kofar Gabas and a teacher at Government Girls Secondary School Babura engaged under N-Power.

“The incident occurred on Thursday in Babura when the attention of our officers was drawn by a good Samaritan who informed them that some youths were about to lynch a girl in Kofar Arewa, the residence of the suspect, to revenge for their friend," said Shehu.

“Immediately the officers swung into action and went to the scene and whisked the girl away to the office for safety, but they still followed her.
“It was upon reaching the office that we realised what led to the whole matter.

“Ramlatu confessed to having used a knife to cut off the manhood of her husband-to-be. According to her, Abdullahi is the love of her life and he was even introduced to her family members and has equally given the sum of N30,000 as an introduction fee.

“And because of that, she was free to be with him almost all the time. As a result, they became too intimate that they engaged in a sexual affair. However, Miss Ramlatu later learnt that the victim has planned to dump her for another girl since he has already known her as a woman. And that was what made her to plan and execute her attack,” he said.

Sheu said that the suspect further confessed that it was while they were together and about to start their usual affair that she confronted the victim with the issue and he responded in the affirmative.

“And already, she had a knife with her without his knowledge which she brought out and chopped off his manhood. After committing the offence, she ran to her parent’s house to inform her mother. And it was while she was there that the youths stormed the house.

The spokesman said that after knowing the situation, the officers rushed to the scene and took the victim to Babura General Hospital for medical attention.

The victim was later referred to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano.

Mr Shehu said that the suspect had already been charged to court and remanded in prison until September 6for further hearing.

Man accused of raping, killing and eating his ex-girlfriend deemed mentally fit to stand trial

A man accused of raping, killing and eating parts of the body of his ex-girlfriend has been deemed mentally fit to stand trial by a state psychiatrist.

35-year-old Joseph Oberhansley of Jeffersonville has been committed at the Logansport State Hospital since October when a judge ruled that he wasn't competent to stand trial for the 2014 killing of girlfriend Tammy Jo Blanton.

Mr. Oberhansley is accused of breaking into Ms. Blanton’s house, raping her, stabbing her to death, then sawing her head and body open to eat her brain, heart and lungs.

"This matter has been going on for four years now, and it's high time that the victim's family saw justice done," Clark County Prosecuting Attorney Jeremy Mull told the Courier Journal after the hearing.

The letter from the psychiatrist filed with Clark County Circuit Court noted that Oberhansley's competency has been restored since he was committed there last October to undergo competency restoration. In some of his early court appearances after his arrest, Obserhansley had outbursts in court and said his name was Zeus, WAVE3 reported.

Oberhansley's attorneys requested in court Thursday to have a month to talk with him and form an opinion on his competency. During the hearing, Oberhansley spoke up, telling the judge he needed to fire his attorneys, according to the Courier Journal.

"They're trying to control my thoughts," he said in court. "They're trying to control my mind."

Prosecuting attorney for Clark County, Jeremy Mull asked with the judge to set a date for a trial in the next six months, but the defence pleaded for a month-long delay before a trial is scheduled. 

The next hearing in the case was set for 21 September.

Mr Oberhansley is charged with murder, burglary and rape and faces up to the death penalty if convicted.
