Peter Obi: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Cried To Governors Not To Share Money, They Did - Politics -

POSTS
Former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi has revealed that state governors during the last administration shared billions among themselves.

Obi said this on Wednesday morning while analysing the state of the economy on Channels TV.

He recalled how the former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala begged the State Governors at the time to save for the future in the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF), a programme that was meant to save fund for the nation, but most of them refused and shared the money.

Obi said, “Over the years, things have gone wrong, I remember Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala crying every day to governors to save these monies and invest in the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF), a programme that was meant to save fund for the nation to cater for a rainy day as presently experienced.

“All of us disagreed and said let’s share it. some governors even went to court to get the federal government to allow them to share the money among themselves. ”

Further speaking, Obi called on the federal government to stop borrowing as they keep plunging Nigeria into poverty.

“Borrowing for consumption will not grow the economy, it gets to a state where you can’t control it. The amount being used to service our debt today is high, we use almost 60% to service them and we are borrowing more, it’s escalating.

“World Bank and IMF have warned Nigeria against rising debt.

“You are borrowing money and the issues that it was supposed to affect is not coming down. Unemployment is worsening. Our unemployment rate moved from 14.8% to 18.8% this year, which means more people have lost their jobs.

“The economy is shrinking, the entire capital votes this year ‘is’ borrowed, and we have existing debts already. Poverty is increasing, out of school children have moved from 10 million to almost 12 million,” Obi added.

Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo has said that churches that specialise in prosperity preaching through which they acquire stupendous wealth may be slammed with tax.

Akufo-Addo made the declaration as he delivered stinging criticisms about some churches which he accused of being everything but what a church should be.

The Ghanaian president, speaking at a synod of the Global Evangelical Church at the University of Ghana, remarked that the church is becoming “a pale shadow of what it used to be generations ago.”

Goodluck Jonathan: If Not For Saraki, National Assembly Would Have Been In Chaos - Politics

A former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, on Wednesday commended Senate President Bukola Saraki for the kind of leadership he has provided for the National Assembly.

Mr Jonathan spoke when the senate president paid him a courtesy visit at his Maitama Office in Abuja.

He said the tremendous support being enjoyed by Mr Saraki from lawmakers in both the Senate and the House of Representatives testifies to his leadership ability.

“Senate President, let me use this opportunity to commend your leadership abilities. Looking at what is happening in the country, if not for your strong leadership, probably the National Assembly would have been in chaos and if the National Assembly is in tatters, then of course, democracy is gone.

“I am quite pleased with the kind of relationship you have with the House of Representatives members and how you have been able to hold the National Assembly together because on the day that the parliament was invaded, though the target was the Senate, the House of Representatives members were as active as, if not more active, than the senators; and that cannot happen by chance.

“What we know is that if there is an assault on the Senate. Then it is also seen as an assault on the House of Representatives. If they (House of Representatives members) don’t believe in you, I don’t think some of them would have taken that kind of risk. That commitment shows that they believe in your leadership”

he was quoted as saying in a statement by Mr Saraki’s Chief Press Secretary, Sanni Onogu.

Earlier, Mr Saraki said his visit was to pay his respect to the ex-president and also to inform him of his formal return to the fold of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said that the present realities in the country show that all those that love the country must work together to return the country to the path of growth, fairness, equity and justice.

Kanye West finally apologizes for his "slavery was a choice" comments in new interview (video)

Kanye West finally apologizes for his "slavery was a choice" comments in new interview (video)
Kanye West has finally issued an apology after he angered black people by saying black slavery was a choice.
The rapper was at 107.5 WGCI Chicago this morning for an interview and it was there that he apologised.
Addressing the statement he made on TMZ TV that black people chose to be slaves, Kanye first said that he "never really approached or addressed the slavery comment fully," and discussed it in relation to his mental well-being.
He said:
This is something about the fact that it hurt people’s feelings and the way that I presented that piece of information. I could present in a way more calm way, but I was ramped up. And I apologize. That happens sometimes when people are—I’m not blaming mental health, but I’m explaining mental health.
He added:
I don’t know if I properly apologized for how the slavery comment made people feel. I’m sorry for the one-two effect of the MAGA hat into the slave comment, and I’m sorry for people that felt let down by that moment. And I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to talk to you about the way I was thinking and what I was going through.
He also gave his thoughts on Donald Trump's views on black people, a question he couldn't answer when Jimmy Kimmel asked him during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! He explained that he was silent when Jimmy Kimmel asked him the question because he was taking "time to think."
He said:
I feel that [Trump] cares about the way black people feel about him, and he would like for black people to like him like they did when he was cool in the rap songs... He will do the things that are necessary to make that happen because he’s got an ego like all the rest of us, and he wants to be the greatest president, and he knows that he can’t be the greatest president without the acceptance of the black community. So it’s something he's gonna work towards, but we’re gonna have to speak to him.
