Knificent.blogspot.com
.The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed three officers in the Inspector cadre involved in the "unauthorised" search of the home of Chief Edwin Clark, an elder statesman.
The officers — Inspector Godwin Musa, Inspector Sada Abubakar and Inspector Yabo Paul — were led by ASP David Dominic, who stormed the house of Clark claiming the elder statesman was housing arms and ammunition.
The Police, through its spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood, announced that the inspectors had been dismissed from the force.
Moshood claimed that the Inspector General of the Police, Ibrahim Idris, approved the dismissal of the inspectors.
On Wednesday, the force had paraded one Ismail Yakubu who was said to have given false information that led to the search of Clark's home.
That was hours after the IGP had apologised to Clark for "the misconducts of the said Police personnel and the attendant embarrassment the search has caused on the elder statesman and his family”.

Atiku Vows To End Multiple Exchange Rates - Politics
Nigerian presidential hopeful Atiku Abubakar said he will scrap a system of multiple exchange rates to attract foreign investment and accused President Muhammadu Buhari of failing to deal with the nation’s security challenges.
“I would definitely end” the existence of several naira rates, Abubakar, a 71-year-old former vice president, told reporters Monday in Lagos, the commercial capital of Africa’s biggest oil producer. “It’s clearly anti-business and anti-foreign investment.”
Investors and the International Monetary Fund have long called for Nigeria to liberalize its currency regime to boost an economy that’s still struggling after the 2014 crash in crude prices. While he would need more advice before deciding whether to float the naira, it was important to have a “deregulated foreign-exchange market,” Abubakar said in a separate interview.
Abubakar, a Muslim from the north and a father of 26 children, is one of the main contenders to be the candidate of the opposition People’s Democratic Party, which will hold primaries later this year, along with Senate President Bukola Saraki and three former state governors. Abubakar defected from Buhari’s ruling All Progressives Congress last year, the second time he returned to the PDP in a decade.
Abubakar has been a presidential aspirant in three different parties since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999. He lost to Buhari in the APC primaries in 2015 but supported him as the candidate. Buhari’s victory against then President Goodluck Jonathan marked the first time in Nigeria’s history that an opposition challenger took power through the ballot box.
Buhari may not be willing to leave office if he loses the election in February, Abubakar said.
“He is very stern, very uncompromising and power-drunk,” Abubakar said. “He may not be ready to relinquish power without a fight. I have my fears. There may not be credible elections.”
A former Nigerian Customs Service top official who became a major shareholder in Intels Nigeria Ltd., an oil-service company, he favors regional autonomy and power devolution, a stance that has popular appeal particularly in southern Nigeria.
Abubakar blamed Buhari for failing to diversify the economy from oil and handle security problems ranging from Boko Haram’s Islamist insurgency to deadly clashes between farmers and herdsmen.
“It’s been a disappointment,” he said. “We have done very badly as far as the economy, security and the unity of the country are concerned.”
Abubakar said his experience as vice president and in business stood him in good stead to govern Nigeria.
“I have a strong track record,” he said. “The economy did well when we were in government. The private sector was booming. And I’ve been a successful businessman. Buhari has driven out foreign investors.”

A former staff of the Budget Office of the Federation, Mr. Henry Ilemona Oyibo, who is now with the Ministry of Niger Delta, has been arrested by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for allegedly receiving gratification to carry out his official duties.
Acting on a petition submitted, the Commission’s operatives in their preliminary investigation, discovered that between 2014 and 2015, Mr. Oyibo received gratification to the tune of N5,547,600.00 of funds of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja from the Director, Finance and Accounts, Mr. Sule Otu, and three other staff for him as Liaison Officer, to facilitate the release of the Centre’s budgeted funds by the Budget Office.

The actions of the officials which border on corrupt offer and receipt of gratification by public officers are contrary to sections 8, 9, 16 and 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.
Further investigation also revealed that Mr. Oyibo owns assets valued far beyond his legitimate earnings in breach of Section 44 (2) of the ICPC law.
All the suspected staff of the Federal Medical Centre who had been in custody previously were granted bail and released by the Commission, while Mr. Oyibo, who is now in custody, will be released upon the fulfilment of his bail conditions.
They will all be charged to court as soon as investigations have been completed
''Fake news is the only weapon used against a performing government like ours'' Lai Mohammed

.

Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, today said fake news is the only weapon the opposition can use to fight ainst a performing government like the Buhari-led government. Lai made the comment when he paid courtesy visit to the People’s Daily newspaper in Abuja.
“Fake news has taken another dimension. Now, it is not uncommon for otherwise respectable media organisations to accuse the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria without backing up their accusation with an iota of evidence.“The latest of such occurred two days ago, when a newspaper wrote an editorial in which it resorted to the use of uncouth language to link the president to the farmers-herders clashes. In their eagerness to de-market the President, they forget that the President is the symbol of Nigeria, and that by denigrating him, they are denigrating the country.“Unknown to them, by throwing caution to the wind, they are not only denigrating the country, they are also destroying themselves. The media is free to criticise the president, but it is not right to denigrate the president. They are unrelenting, because fake news is the only weapon they have against a performing administration like ours. They know they cannot take on us on the issue of infrastructure, economy, fight against corruption, agricultural development, etc. They have therefore resorted to using fake news to de-market our administration. Thankfully, they are failing.” he said
Speaking further, Lai said those that are in the habit of spreading fake news are perfecting plans to distort campaigns of 2019 general election.
“The purveyors of fake news in Nigeria have not relented. If anything at all, they are perfecting their strategy of using fake news to distort the campaign for next year’s general elections. No doubt, the main target of the naysayers is the Buhari administration. They have used fake news to aggravate the farmers-herders clashes. If we can’t slay the monster of fake news, we must at least tame it. All we are asking all Nigerians to do are check the source of any news item being pushed their way [and] don’t share whatever they cannot vouch for'' he said
