1. Star-nose mole (Blind Mole)
The star-nosed mole is a functionally blind animal characterized by its twenty-two pink appendages which rings its snout. These appendages contain above 25,000 minutes Eimer's organ (sensory receptors) acting as touch organ.

The Eimer's organ also allows the mole to smell even under water; a function thought to be impossible in mammals.

2. Yeti Crab

Kiwa hirsuta is its real name; Yeti crab was the name scientist dubbed it.

This animal which was discovered in 2005 in South Pacific Ocean famous for its pereiopods being covered by a substance that looks like fur (silky blond setae).

This decapod's eyes is significantly reduced, so, it is considered blind. The silky blond setae contain filamentous bacteria which can be used to detoxify lethal minerals from the water emitted by the hydrothermal vents where it lives.

3. Walking Fish

Axolotl which is also known as Mexican Walking Fish is not a fish but an amphibian. This neotenic salamander is used extensively in scientific research due to its ability to regenerate limbs.

Our crucial questions were, how will it defend itself from predators?

It is astonishing thou that this world's largest freshwater turtle is an ambush predator and primarily carnivorous, feeding on crustaceans, mollusks, and fish; seldom eats aquatic plants too.

The turtle spends 95 percent of its lifetime buried and motionless, with its eyes and mouth protruding from the sand. It surfaces only twice a day to take a breath and could lay about 20–28 eggs.

5. Superb Bird of Paradise

Vogelkop Superb Bird-of-Paradise is strange not for its look or features, but for its distinctive ability to dance.

If you are a bad dancer, download videos of this dancing bird to learn some good moves.

The female is known to be dominating than the male. There is a huge margin between the population of male and female. The scarcity of females results in a fierce competition between males -- the best dancer takes the girl.

Sule Lamido: I Am Atiku’s Senior, I Won’t Step Down For Him - Politics -

Knificent.blogspot.com .
former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has responded to a statement in which former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, said Mr Lamido would step down for him in the presidential race.

Both men are running for the ticket of opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alongside about ten other aspirants.

At a meeting with PDP leaders in Dutse, Jigawa State on Monday, Mr Abubakar said he believed Mr Lamido would step down for him as his elder brother.

He said he believed Mr Lamido would concede the ticket to him because the former governor is his younger brother and shares the same political ideology with him.

Mr Abubakar based his prediction on the scenario in the aborted Third Republic when the Yar’Adua brothers initially sought the tickets of the defunct Social Democratic Party.

The late Shehu, who was the elder, was running for president while the late Umar sought the ticket of the same party for governorship of Katsina State.

Mr. Atiku recalled that the late Musa was eventually persuaded to sacrifice his ambition so as not to jeopardise the chances of his elder brother.

“But with the intervention of elders in the state, the junior brother Umar Musa stepped down for another aspirant so that the politics will not be a family affair, leaving Shehu Musa to contest for president while someone from another family vied for governor,” Mr Abubakar said.

Mr Abubakar told the gathering that his mother was from Jigawar Sarki, a village in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State before her family migrated to Adamawa State where Mr Abubakar was born.

Responding to Mr Abubakar’s comment through a statement on Tuesday by his media aide, Adamu Usman, Mr Lamido said he would not step down.

“While it is true he (Mr Abubakar) is older than me age-wise, I’m senior to him politically because I was in the House of Representatives in 1979 when he was an employee of Nigeria Customs Services.

“And if age is the criterion for standing election then he should drop out for Buhari.”

According to Mr Usman, Mr Lamido had been “patient, loyal, committed and consistent” in politics despite all the odds and his travails.

“Even if Lamido did not shows interest to contest, PDP should have called him to be the flag bearer and if there is anyone the other aspirants should step down for, it should be Sule Lamido because he has the goodwill, political experience and capacity to confront the ruling party, APC.

“Also if Lamido is to step down, why would he aspire in the first place? Sule Lamido is out to run for the president come 2019 God willing,” Mr Usman stated.

Primaries: APC Lists Conditions For Consensus Candidature - Politics -

Knificent.blogspot.com .

By Omeiza Ajayi

ABUJA – The All Progressives Congress APC has outlined conditions to be met by its state chapters before adopting consensus as an option in its forthcoming congresses and primary elections.

The party in a statement by its acting National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena said though consensus remained a constitutional option, it can only be a last resort where only one person has purchased the nomination and expression of interest forms. The statement reads; “The attention of the All Progressives Congress APC has been drawn to announcements of consensus candidates for elective positions in some states.

“It is therefore pertinent to make some clarifications to enlighten Party faithful on the procedure for nominating candidates. “While consensus is provided for by the Party’s Constitution, the option is conditional. Consensus does not foreclose Direct or Indirect Primaries for all elective positions as contained in the resolution of the 6th meeting of the Party’s National Executive Committee NEC.

“Again, consensus will apply when no other aspirant signify interest (i.e. through purchase of nomination forms) for the position in question”, the party added.

24 Die Of Snake Bites In Gombe - Health -

Knificent.blogspot.com .

The Snake Bite Treatment and Research Centre in Kaltungo, Gombe State, says it has recorded 24 deaths out of the 1,829 cases of snake bites recorded between January and August.

The officer in charge of the centre, Abubakar Ballah, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaltungo on Monday.

He said the 24 deaths recorded were due to the lateness in reporting cases to the hospital, with many of the patients admitted in critical conditions.

“Today is September 10 and we have 84 patients in our records currently receiving treatment and probably more patients will come before the month ends.

“The cases are on the increase because of the downpour which dislodges snakes from their holes to seek higher ground because they do not like wet environment.

“They climb trees, maize or millet to keep away from water; that is the reason why people are severely bitten,’’ he said.

He said apart from farmers, herdsmen who climb trees to cut leaves for their livestock are also at risk as well as those who go to the bush to fetch firewood.

Mr Ballah appealed to farmers to refrain from staying late in their farms, saying snakes often come out in the evening to look for prey.

He also lamented the attitude of treating victims at home with the use of herbs until the condition had deteriorated.

“We are calling on their relatives to stop giving snake bite victims herbs because some of the herbs cause the person to vomit, thereby making the condition to deteriorate.
“The only first aid you can give to a snake bite patient is paracetamol and then you rush to the hospital.

“We have drugs in sufficient quantity and enough backing by the state government.

“Even though some of the patients we receive come from the neighbouring states, they receive treatment free of charge like indigenes,’’ he said.
