New Ways Scammers Defraud ATM Users - Crime

Knificent.blogspot.com .
How scammers defraud ATM users in Kano

By Richard P. Ngbokai

An Automated Teller Machine (ATM) fraud is gradually becoming an issue of serious concern in mega cities across the country.

The crime has become a past time among the young generation of urban dwellers in Kano state.

The operators of this illegal business have no doubt deprived many people of their hard-earned resources as the youth leverage on the imbalance of technological adaptation to extort the unsuspecting users of ATM, who are naïve about the technology.

It is a common phenomenon among the banking publics to receive strange calls or unsolicited text messages purportedly from their bankers requesting for the details of their ATM cards claiming that the cards are being deactivated.

After many naïve bank customers have lost their money through this scam, the banks started sensitizing their customers to beware of strange calls and unsolicited text messages about their bank details.

With the sensitization, many customers become enlightened and started ignoring the dubious requests from the fraudsters thus forcing the criminals to device another scheme to continue their nefarious practices.

In Kano, until recently when the state police command paraded a syndicate of ATM fraudsters, no one ever expected that most of the young men thronging the ATM points in the evening hours are there on a negative mission.

One of the suspects, Umar Ya’u a.k.a Gora, a resident of Tudun Maliki, Zoo Road of Kano metropolis, in his confessional statement said he had bought a car out of the proceeds of the crime.

Gora also said he had trained many young men in the art of extorting money from unsuspecting ATM users with whom he operates.

He disclosed that the highest amount he got at once from the illicit business since he started was N380,000. He said he realises between N20,000 to N40,000 daily before he was eventually caught.

Speaking their mode of operation, Gora said in the evening a group of not less than four members of the syndicate would be stationed at a particular cash machine to pose innocently and observe the customers as they carry out their transactions on the cash machines.

“If there is any customer who has issues with using the cash machine we will come forth in the pretext of assisting him or her, in the process, after having access to the card’s pin number we would exchange the card.

Already we have our own cards and once the person goes away we will take the card to another machine and clear his account.

He revealed that any customer who seems to be too curious about their action would be distracted either by unnecessary question from other members of the group from behind.

“We normally divide ourselves, either one person would step forward to assist and the other person stands behind and that person will intervene in a way that the transaction will fail and in the process the two standing behind will begin to ask the card owner some questions about the card and once his attention is diverted the person purportedly rendering assistance will swap the card with a wrong one” Gora added.

Adamu Iliyu also from Tudun Maliki who was also among the suspects said he had made over a N100,000 in the two operations he had participated before he met his waterloo in the operation in which they were about to withdraw N530, 000.

Parading the suspects, the spokesman of the Kano state police command, SP Magaji Musa Majia advised the ATM users to beware of the scammers posing at ATM points as innocent citizens willing to assist the bank customers in carrying out their transaction.

He urged the ATM users to always protect their ATM personal identification numbers, saying the only persons to assist in event of any difficulty at an ATM poin, are the bank officials.

Gora and Iliyu are residents of Tudun Maliki,

while their accomplice, Mohammed Hassan, resides in Kofar Nassarawa of Kano metropolis.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) yesterday arrested a Lebanese Chef, Charbel Chalouhi, for allegedly using and dealing in drugs at his residence on number 18, Wahab Ogunbambo Street, off Simeon Akinlonu Crescent, Victoria Island.

According to The Nation, Chalouhi was arrested following an intelligence report that he was involved in hard drugs. He was trailed by NDLEA officers at the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) Lagos Command, Ikeja.

Thereafter, he was taken to his home where 1kg of cocaine from recovered.
“I was just walking on the street and I saw the NDLEA officials when they came in. I saw the event. When they came, they invaded his house, not even his house alone, they went to other houses too. But when they got to know that he was the one, they checked him and they took him away. He joined the NDLEA officials in their car.” a resident of the area where the suspect lives said

Speaking further, the resident said “People in this area have been very careful about complaining to law enforcement agencies about the activities of drug dealers, because such people can be very dangerous. If they get to know that you reported them, you could be harmed. People are living in fear, so the NDLEA should save us, save Nigerian youths.”

Another witness said some Lebanese in the country were putting pressure on the NDLEA to free Chalouhi.
“Since his arrest, different Lebanese and top politicians have been calling the Lagos State Area Command and pressurising the investigating officer to drop the case. Most importantly, for the security of our Nigerian youths and the prevention of the drug trading Lebanese cartel on the streets of Lekki, Victoria Island and Ikoyi, this case should be used to set an example to foreigners taking over our streets with hard drugs.” the eyewitness said

The NDLEA’s Airport Command spokesperson, Mr Ahmed Garba, said he was not aware of the incident, but NDLEA Lagos Area Commander Aliu Suleiman, confirmed Chalouhi’s arrest.
“We are still investigating,” Suleiman said

LG Innovative Product offerings consumer taking centre stage

LG Innovative Product offerings consumer taking centre stage

It is important for organizations to put their consumers into consideration particularly companies who are saddled with responsibility of churning out goods and services to meet the need of consumers. In order to be successful, organizations need to always adapt and accommodate their consumers’ consumption pattern which consistently changes from time to time. Human wants is insatiable, hence the need for companies to also put consumer’s first essentially to achieve customer retention and customer loyalty.
In the words of Raymond Albert Kroc, “if you work just for money, you will never make it, but if you love what you are doing and you always put the customer first, success will be yours.” Gathering relevant information about your consumers are essential tips to creating intuitive and user-friendly products. What the information helps the company to do is to basically design product features that would match needs and preference of consumers given a realistic price at every point in time.

Emphatically, companies who pay special attention in ensuring that customers priorities are placed ahead of everything else end up providing personalized consumer experience. There is no doubt such organization would in the long run build a more healthier relationship with their consumers by identifying and satisfying their needs with improved modern technological innovation.
LG Electronics prides itself as one of such companies whose philosophy is “consumers first” which has been integrated into all its production process clearly positioning the brand way ahead of its major competition with mind blowing ergonomic and innovative products to its credits. This has over the years become the hall mark of the company’s giant strides in the electronics market.
Industry observers would agree LG Electronics is one of the first electronics firms to boldly embark on the second path, growing from a humble chemical supplier to include electronics and advanced technology in its portfolio of offerings. This strategy has paid off for consumers time and time again as they are able to rely on a single company for all of their household needs. The uncertainty surrounding electronics purchasing has been replaced by the security offered by a single brand with a commitment to quality and customer service. Today, technologies and concepts like webOS or ThinQthat have seen success in certain areas can be easily exported to new product categories in order to simplify the user experience. When LG engineers from various sectors collaborate, their shared experience and know-how ultimately benefits the consumer.

Managing Director, LG Electronics West Africa operations, Mr. Taeick Son said: “Our commitment in ensuring that all our range of products from the least to the high-end are usually consumer-oriented and easily adapted effortlessly would never be compromised. We hold our consumers in high esteem that is why all our products are tailored towards meeting their ever growing needs in a satisfactory manner.”
However, to demonstrate its firm believe and commitment towards the consumers’ satisfaction. LG has imbibed the culture of subjecting all its products to a standardized testing procedure for optimum and quality output. A very good example in sight is the G6 smartphone that was taken beyond the required standard set by international bodies to determine its physical durability, which has resulted in the overall success story of the product. LG has always been a leader in design and usability, with its entire product lineup developed through rigorous testing and feedback procedures designed to improve each subsequent generation. This has helped the entire brand see success while building a reputation for user-oriented solutions.
LG is at the forefront of innovation in environmental management technologies like air purifiers and water filters that safeguard the mental and physical health of consumers. In these vital areas, LG is one of the few suppliers able to offer solutions that fit every consumer need, and every budget. Advanced products like the LG SIGNATURE air purifier incorporate the most innovative technology while offering aesthetic design but more practical solutions such as water purifiers designed for the Indian market eschew complicated features to offer consumers an essential service at an affordable price. LG always puts consumers first but believes that everyone deserves a better life.
Over the years LG has made a name for itself with the success story it has achieved in the design and production of smartpones with remarkably increase in accessibility. The company earned the feat through its ability to regularly integrate new innovative features into its phones while keeping them affordable. Despite its success, it is a philosophy that still drives the company’s vision of expanding access to the most advanced mobile technology
LG Electronics array of products shows that the company is always putting its consumers’ first in its thought process, thereby ensuring the consumers are healthy enough and enjoy stress free life while using their products. As the world continues to evolve, human daily experiences would continue to tilt towards technological trends designed to help them live a smarter and more fulfilled life, achieving a lot within a short time.
Life is always good when the product stands out as a consumer-oriented one, with distinctive features which is of great interest to LG Electronics as a renowned brand in the world of consumer electronics. Little wonder, Harry Gordon Selfridge was famous for the saying, “Customer is always right” that is to say, without the consumers readily available the company cannot exist. Therefore, companies must be ready to do everything humanly possible to meet the yearnings and aspiration of consumers at all times, in order to remain relevant in the business world by churning out products that captures in totality the interest of the consumers.
