Buhari Emerges Unopposed, Faces APC Affirmation Primary In October - Politics -

Knificent.blogspot.com .

Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja

As the submission of completed expression of interest and nomination forms for aspirants seeking the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) closed wednesday, President Muhammadu Buhari was the only presidential aspirant who collected and submitted the nomination forms.

Consequently, he has emerged unopposed in his bid for a second term of office on the platform of the party.

He would, however, undergo other processes before he would be formally pronounced the presidential candidate of the APC for next year’s election.

According to the Electoral Act 2010 as amended, an unopposed aspirant would have to face a special convention or congress of his party to affirm his candidature.

Specifically, Section 87 (6) of the Electoral Act says, “Where there is only one aspirant in a political party for any of the elective positions mentioned in paragraph (4) (a) (b) (c) and (d), the Party shall convene a special convention or congress at a designated Centre on a specified date for the confirmation of such aspirant and the name of the aspirant shall be forwarded to the Commission as the Candidate of the Party.”

The party had in memo stated its clear intention to comply with this provision of the electoral act in a clarification he sent to its state branches on Tuesday, urging full compliance so that any victory obtained at the polls would not be susceptible to being successfully challenged at election petition tribunals.

What this means is that even though Buhari may have technically clinched the presidential ticket of the APC, he still has to face the process of ratification through the direct primary approved by the National Executive Committee some weeks ago.

The president had yesterday submitted his forms to the National Chairman, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja.

Before the arrival of the president at the party secretariat, armed security men, comprising the police, Directorate of State Services (DSS), officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and the Nigerian Security Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), had cordoned off all the streets leading to the national secretariat of the party.

The president, who arrived at 3.44 pm, spent about 30 minutes with the members of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Oshiomhole, during which he submitted his form.

Journalists were literally prevented from having a view of the president and his entourage as they entered the NEC Hall of the APC to submit the nomination form.

Journalists covering the APC national chairman were almost held hostage in the media centre throughout the duration of the president’s stay.

Only reporters attached to the Presidential Villa who came with him were allowed to cover the event.

The president’s visit also grounded activities at the party office for several hours as security operatives kept vigil around the secretariat preventing normal movement of people.

Even aspirants of the party coming to submit their nomination forms were not allowed access until the president’s departure.

Buhari had on Tuesday received the nomination forms for presidential ticket of the APC from a group known as Nigeria Consolidation Ambassadors Network (NCAN) at the State House.

The purchase of the nomination forms by the group at a whooping N45.5 million generated concerns by the media and the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which criticised the action.

APC, however, defended the president saying that no law was violated; adding that funds for the president’s nomination forms were raised by supporters who want him back in office at 2019 general elections

"RIP To My Useless Father" - Corper Victor Bills Speaks Out Finally - Family -

Knificent.blogspot.com .

An NYSC serving corps member in Abuja who celebrated the death of his father on social media, has come out to state why he thought the passing away of his dad was good news.

Over the past weekend, the story of a members of the NYSC serving in Abuja who mocked the death of own his father by celebrating the demise on social media, emerged online, and was trailed with criticisms and mixed reactions from many social media users.

After the death of his father, he had taken to Facebook to express these rather strange words: “Friday is for CDS….#Abjcoppa….And finally the great devil died last night….. R.I.P my useless father…..Just so happy we all saw ur death…. This is GOODNEWS.”

While speaking in a new interview, the young man identified simply as Victor M Bills, who later deleted this post due to the appeals of his friends, opened up on why he thought the passing away of his dad was good news, and the reason about his obvious happiness at his father’s death

He disclosed that he was in no way sorry about the statements he wrote on Facebook, as his father’s demise was an answered prayer.

According to him, his dad had denied him the essential fatherly love he needed ever since his mother got separated from him about 26 years ago due to an unknown reason.

These were his exact words: “I can’t paint him white when I’m dying inside me. He always laughed and told me I would suffer and die before him. But the reverse is now the case… He wasn’t God.

“He deprived me of fatherly love… And still didn’t wish me well. So his death was a great relief to the family… I’m not regretting anything. My friends asked me to delete the post. But I don’t regret posting it.

“Now I wonder the kind of tribute the children will write for him and what people will know him for other than evil. I just pity him, because even at gunpoint I’ll never agree that he had an atom of love for me.

“He cursed me every time he saw me. We never had a loving time as father and son. I’m not fabricating stories. I’m telling you the truth. Don’t know why he hated me so much.
“Before now, anytime I met new friends I told them my dad was late so that they wouldn’t bring up topics about him. I always talked about my mum. So, when they saw my post about him, they were surprised I had a dad all the while. Even friends from secondary school.

"He didn’t attend his children’s wedding or even wished them well. Rather, he rained curses on them, just to frustrate them. Does such a man deserve to be given a befitting burial? He was heartless and never believed he would die soon.”
However, Victor who hails from Amaraku, Isiala Mbano in Imo State could not but celebrate his mother who took up the responsibility of taking care of him and his three siblings.

He said: “I believe in the strength of thorough womanhood from my mum. I thought about how life would have been if my mother wasn’t hardworking and industrious. What if my mum had hooked up with another man after their separation. What would I have done?"

As for whether he planned to grace the occasion of his father’s burial, the Abuja corps member said he would not only be more than happy to miss the funeral, he would also ensure his siblings and mother do not spare the time to do same.
Towards the end of the chat, Victor said that, with the post he shared on Facebook, he hopes to awaken every parent who treated their children in ill manners due to the fact that they were hurting from the scars meted to them by their spouses.

“Just trying to encourage my peers that if they hate any lass, they shouldn’t transfer their hatred to the children. Too bad that parents do so with belief that certainly the child will forgive them later in life, even after punishing such a child emotionally.”

Man descends from telecoms mast 24 hours after he climbed and threatened not to come down until President Buhari resigns

Yesterday, a man climbed a telecommunications mast in Abuja and refused to descend until President Buhari resigns as the president of Nigeria. He has now descended 24 hours after his protest began and spoke to journalists, explaining the reason for his action.
The man, who gave his name as Nura Ilyasu, climbed a mast belonging to Airtel Nigeria, located few metres away from the presidential villa and Lungi Army Barracks, on Wednesday. He came down from the mast at about 11:24am today, 24 hours after the protest began.
Security operatives, who had been communicating with him via his mobile phone, had tried to talk him into coming down from the mast but he declined. He eventually agreed to descend only after security operatives acceded to his request that he must address the press upon his descent.

Speaking to the press after his descent, Ilyasu said he climbed the mast to protest the economic hardship in the country and added that President Muhammadu Buhari does not deserve another four years in office, according to Sahara Reporters.
He said:
My name is Nura Ilyasu. I am 28 years old. What I did is within the purview of the law. My human right is to protest peacefully and I never threatened my life or any other person
What we are going through in this country is not from God. Some microscopic-view individuals hijacked all that God endowed Nigeria with for decent life, and we can't continue like this. I climbed up for seven days hunger strike to protest the incompetence and cluelessness, to protest presidential impunity and general docility displayed by the masses. We can't continue like this.
Other competent candidates are there; even Saraki, Atiku, Kwankwaso, Tambuwal, Dankwambo and others.  At least one of these [men] will make a good President.
I don't believe General Buhari deserves another four-year term in Nigeria because the pervasive hunger and poverty in Nigeria is inexplicable. I don't have mental disorder as being insinuated by some people."
Ilyasu added that he is mentally stable, as opposed to speculations being made about his mental health. He said he came down because some lawyers spoke to him while he was on the mast.

Catholic Bishop advised to step down after being accused of repeatedly raping a nun

Spokesman of the archdiocese of Bombay, India, Fr Nigel Barrett, has advised Bishop Franco Mulakkal of Jalandhar, to step down from his post pending an inquiry into the case of sexual harassment involving a nun.
The Roman Catholic Bishop is accused of repeatedly raping the nun in Kerala over two years.
The 46-year-old nun alleged that she was sexually assaulted 13 times from 2014 and 2016. She has written to the Vatican, urging that action be taken against the offender.
However, the Bishop has refuted the allegations and accused 'anti-church elements' of falsely implicating him.

Archbishop of Bombay, Oswald Cardinal Gracias, who is also the president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of India, and an advisor to the Pope, has said he will try to address the matter to Pope Francis. Cardinal Gracias is currently touring the Vatican.

Fr Nigel felt it would be best that Bishop Franco steps down pending an impartial enquiry. If he is determined to be not guilty, he can get back to his position.
Meanwhile the Indian Christian Women's movement (ICWM), a national ecumenical movement of Christian women, has demanded action against the bishop. It expressed solidarity with the public protest, and commended the courageous action of the five nuns who hail from the rape survivor's convent in Kottayam, in the struggle for justice.
Condemning police laxity, ICWM voiced "anger, pain and shame at the silence of the Catholic hierarchy and their refusal to make the accused step down from office while the police investigation is ongoing".
ICWM questioned the "credibility of the hierarchy in promoting a policy to address sexual harassment in the Church.
The Kerala police on Wednesday,  summoned Bishop Mulakkal following a meeting to review the progress made in the case.

The Bishop has been asked to appear before the police on September 19, Inspector General of Police Vijay Sakhare said.
"There are a lot of contradictions in the case. This is an old case based primarily on oral evidence. We have verified a lot of contradictions. It's our duty to protect the victim and witnesses, " Sakhare said.
