Barcelona 4-0 PSV: Lionel Messi Sets Two New Champions League Records - Sports -

Knificent.blogspot.com .

Lionel Messi has set two new records after inspiring Barcelona to a 4-0 win over PSV Eindhoven.

The Argentine scored a beautiful free-kick in the first half and then completed his hat trick with two goals in the second half.

Ousmane Dembele was on the Scoresheet as Barcelona started with the best possible result in Group B.

However, Messi's 31st minute free-kick ensured that hebecame only the second player in historyto score in 14 consecutive Champions League seasons.

He now shares the record with former Real Madrid striker Raul.

At 31-years-old it’s almost a certainty that Messi will extend the record next year.

This wasn’t the last record Messi would stamp his name on during the match.

After scoring his Hat-trick, Messi has now scored the most trebles in the Champions League history.

That was his eighth hat-trick in the Champions League.

He was level with Cristiano Ronaldo on seven before Tuesday’s proceedings.

The one record that may elude Messi for now is the all-time Champions League record which is currently held by Ronaldo with 120 goals.

David Silva will leave a lasting legacy at Man City when he does finally head home

David Silva has finally confirmed that his days as a Manchester City player are numbered. He was once again reiterated his desire to play for his hometown club, Las Palmas, after his contract expires in 2020.
There are obvious reasons for this, and by the time the summer of 2020 arrives, he will thirty-four and in the twilight of his career. One thing is for certain though, he will leave behind a legacy at City, that few are likely to match.
Class act
In a recent BBC poll, he was voted, head and shoulders above the rest as the greatest Spaniard ever to have played in the English game. That’s quite an honour when you consider he is above the likes of Torres, Fabregas and Juan Mata in that list. It is a rightful acknowledgement of his wonderful ability and staggering contribution to Manchester City, a club he has helped take to the next level.

Sergio Aguero is the greatest player to ever play for Manchester City, he is a world class force of nature who has rightfully earned his place amongst the true legends of the club. However, David Silva deserves as much praise as the Argentinean for dragging City out of United’s shadows.
The Spanish midfielder is arguably one of the finest players his country has ever produced and if it wasn’t for the daunting presence of Xavi and Iniesta, he may have been talked about more as one of the true greats. His influence on Manchester City has been immense.
Hitting the ground running in 2010, the former Valencia midfielder quickly established himself under all three of the managers he has played under at City. Some pundits often debate whether smaller, slighter players from the Iberian Peninsula can adapt to the physical maelstrom of the Premier League. Silva had no such trouble.
His mobile, nimble presence coupled with his genius movement, allowed him to occupy the key spaces in many of City’s seemingly endless free flowing moves. Virtually every final pass was has been the right one and he has been a constant source of supply to City’s strikers season after season.
The evidence is there to show just how vital he is to their way of playing. Since 2010, he has created a staggering 640 goal scoring opportunites for his club, nobody has got near him in that time. Everton’s Leighton Baines is a distant second place with 456 in a similar number of seasons played at the top, reinforcing Silva’s status as the Premier League’s best creative player.
Despite these creative forces for City, he has not shied away from his goal scoring duties either. Sixty-two scored in eight seasons is a more than fair return for a man so creative and selfless.
Replacements
Age catches up with everybody though and Silva also had to go through some pretty awful personal problems last season as his infant son battled poor health. These two things have probably made him reflect on his future and a return to his homeland is now on the horizon.
“I’ve always said that I’d like to play for Las Palmas – my local team. But we’ll see how things go in two years and take it all from there. I’d like Mateo to grow up where I’m from. That’s where I was brought up and I really hope he can have the same opportunities as I’ve had. I hope he likes sports and if he gets into football we’ll help him.” He told the BBC.

You’d be forgiven for looking at Manchester City’s midfield, with De Bruyne, Mahrez, Sane and Bernando Silva and saying that they are well stocked to deal with an ageing and want away star. However it’s never easy losing such a player at that level, no matter how many coins you have in the piggy bank. He is going to leave a massive hole in that midfield.
They will be able to recruit and throw money at the next best players coming out from the continent and beyond. However a player as good as Silva only comes along once every so often and with today’s meaningless contracts, they are unlikely to find get a decade’s worth of service from a player as great as David Silva ever again.

Saraki: Cabal Ruling Us, Not Buhari - Politics -

Knificent.blogspot.com .

The Senate President and presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Bukola Saraki, yesterday regretted the happenings in Aso rock, the seat of power in Nigeria since 2015 with a verdict that cabal and not President Muhammadu Buhari was in charge of the most populous black country in the world.

He recalled that Nigerians voted the President with the hope that Buhari would effect positive change in the country, but lamented that the people have been shortchanged by the cabal who continue to hold sway in power.

Saraki who was accompanied by Senator Rafiu Ibrahim, Senator Abiodun Olujinmi, Captain Idris Wada, Dr. Doyin Okupe and Muhammed Wakil, made the remarks while addressing PDP delegates in Oyo State during a meeting where he solicited for their votes ahead of the October presidential primary of the major opposition party in the country.

He said the few influential world presidents who had visited Nigeria under the present administration did not stay beyond a few hours because they were convinced that their host did not understand their mission or contributed to discussion as expected.

He also said that Nigeria lacked the progress it deserved because voting patterns were determined by religion, language and ethnicity instead of capacity and merit.

Saraki said, “Over the years, we have made mistakes in electing people based on sentiment. Yes, it is time we correct it. We will correct it because we are capable. Over the years, we have voted for people based on religion, the language they speak and where they came from in Nigeria. We need people who have the courage, capacity, ability and determination.

“I have shown over the years, particularly in the recent years that one has the opportunity of leadership, that I have the capacity to take Nigeria forward. The countries that have done well did so not by bringing leaders by chance but because they looked for capable leaders. It is time to pick such leader.

“The president we have now does not understand leadership. We have endured him for more than three years but it is the same thing. Nigerians voted for him (Buhari) but cabal is ruling the country. That is not what democracy means. This time, let us look for who can do it. In Nigeria today, we do not have unity. What we need in the present world is digital president.

“When your president sits with world presidents, he should be able to understand what they are saying. That is why presidents who have visited the country did not stay more than a few hours. But when they know that their host understands them, they will stay longer and explore investment opportunities in Nigeria.”

Saraki said he considered Oyo State his home because his paternal grandmother was from Iseyin area of the state. He added that the state’s priorities would be protected if he became the president.

“I am happy to be back at home. This is my home, this is my state. By the boundaries that we share between Oyo and Kwara States, compared to other aspirants, it is just a stone throw to travel from Oyo to Kwara State, and they will know that their next president is just next door. On my father side, my grandmother came from Iseyin here in Oyo State; the same town where the PDP chairman in Oyo State comes from, so I know that I have captured a delegate with me. I am sure that many aspirants have come but now that your own has come home, there is nothing wrong in telling them your son has come so that Oyo can have someone that will protect its priority,” he said.

David Mark: I Will Turn Nigeria’s Economy Around In Two Years - Politics -

Knificent.blogspot.com .
"A presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator David Mark, has promised to turn around the economy of the country within two years if elected President of Nigeria in the 2019 general elections.

Mark, a former Senate President, made the promise on Tuesday at the PDP secretariat in Lokoja while on a campaign visit to solicit votes of the state delegates to the presidential primaries in October.

He pledged to do many things differently to revamp the economy saying, “a lot of research had been done on the economy and if given the chance, he would bring them to bear and turn around things.’’

Economic growth under his watch, he said, would experience tremendous change within 700 days, which would be physical rather than based on paper statistics.

He said, “I will do so many things differently. When we put our processes in, the woman who is selling groundnuts by the roadside will feel the impact.

“It is not by mere statistics or indices that we churn out. We want the ordinary people on the streets to feel the impact of the economy on their lives.

“We have young men and women who are neck dip into research and understand the economy of this country.”

On his acceptance by the electorate in the core northern part of the country, Mark said he had equally worked for candidates from the core north and that now it was their turn to support him.

“I think the core north should support us because we also have supported the core north. It is a give and take thing and we are talking about Nigeria.

“We are not talking about a section of this country. If I don’t have a national support, to be honest with you, I would not want to be a President of this country.

“I want to be President of a united and indivisible country called Nigeria. Call it core north, core south or core whatever, wherever they are, let them support me because we too have supported them,” he said.

On consensus candidate, the former Senate President said that would be left for the aspirants and the party to decide.

“Whatever we do, the most important thing is that whoever emerges should emerge through a process that is fair, transparent and credible; whether it is by consensus or by primaries,” he said"
