Two Georgia women were on Friday arrested after officials caught one of them selling marijuana edibles at a local church event.

The women, Ebony Cooper, 28, and 26-year-old Leah Pressley were arrested at a church in Savannah, Georgia, during an event for entrepreneurs, with vendors selling various items from booths, the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team said in a Monday statement.

Ebony Cooper who was one of the vendors “was openly selling the edibles in addition to other items,” the CNT said, noting the items included marijuana-infused “cereal treats, brownies, and puddings.”

When Officials then searched Pressley’s car they found “a large amount of edibles and more than $1,000 in cash,” the CNT said, adding a firearm, “which agents believed Cooper had in her possession while selling the items on church property,” was also seized.

The duo were booked on felony drug charges and taken to the Chatham County Detention Center.

26-year-old Nigerian, Silas Adekunle becomes the highest paid robotics engineer in the world

Silas Adekunle, a 26-year-old Nigerian, credited for building the world’s first gaming robot, has just become the highest paid in the field of Robotic engineering. He achieved this feat after signing a new deal with the world’s reputable software manufacturers, Apple Inc.

The robotics engineer was also named as “Someone to Watch in 2018” by the Black Hedge Fund Group. Adekunle is currently the founder and CEO of Reach Robotics, a company developing the world’s first gaming robots.

He also recently graduated with a 1st class degree and has four years’ background in robotics. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Adekunle studied in Nigeria before relocating to the UK as a teenager. After completing his secondary school education, he proceeded to the University of the West of England where he graduated with a first class graduate in Robotics. In 2013, he founded Reach Robotics and developed a lot of experience on robotics within a space of four years. 

Adekunle was also a team leader of Robotics In Schools programme, a programme which encourages and pays attention to students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The programme encouraged him to develop robotics to make education more entertaining for STEM students. In 2017, MekaMon, he released the world’s first gaming robot, with the special ability to customise the gaming bot to perform personalised functions.

The initial launch of Mekamon sold 500 bots, generating $7.5 million, according to The Guardian. Following this feat, Adekunle received support from various organisations including London Venture Partners ($10 million) and in the same year, his company, Reach Robotics signed a deal with Apple securing exclusive sales in Apple stores. “Impressed by the quality of his robots and their ability to show emotion with subtly-calibrated movements, Apple priced his four-legged “battle-bots” at $300 and has put them in nearly all of its stores in the United States and Britain. “Early customers skew towards male techies but a growing number of parents are buying the robots for their children to get them interested in STEM, Adekunle told Forbes in an interview this year.

The young entrepreneur who once indicated that the secrets to his success are “balance, shared ideas, time management and being oneself”, was recently listed in the 2018 Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe: Technology. Adekunle, who has taken over the world with his inventiveness, is currently located at the Bristol Robotics Lab which is said to be the best robotics research centre in the UK.

New report by the Bill Gates foundation says, 'over 40% of world’s poorest people will live in Nigeria, Congo by 2050'

A new report by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has revealed that more than 40 percent of extremely poor people in the world will be living in Nigeria and DR Congo by 2050.

In the 2018 goalkeepers report released, yesterday, the foundation said by 2050, Nigeria will have 152 million people in extreme poverty, out of a projected population of 429 million. It blamed this on the lack of investment in human capital to correspond with the increasing population growth.

Nigeria is currently the seventh most populous country in the world with an estimated population of 198 million. The annual report, produced in partnership with Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, IHME, at University of Washington, tracks progress being made on the United Nations sustainable development goals, SDGs. In June, Brookings Institution reported that Nigeria had overtaken India as the nation with the highest number of poor people, with 87 million of its citizens in extreme poverty.

International Monetary Fund, IMF, had also said in March that Nigerians are getting poorer due to the lack of coherent and comprehensive economic reforms. The goalkeepers report said while more than a billion in the world have lifted themselves out of extreme poverty since 2000, “extreme poverty is becoming heavily concentrated in sub-Sahara African countries.” “By 2050, that’s where 86 per cent of the extremely poor people in the world are projected to live. The challenge is that within Africa, poverty is concentrating in just a handful of very fast-growing countries. “By 2050, for example, more than 40 percent of the extremely poor people in the world will live in just two countries: Democratic Republic of Congo and Nigeria. Even within these countries, poverty is still concentrating in certain areas.”

The foundation said to address the poverty crisis, adequate investment would need to be made in young people, especially in areas of education, health and human capital development. “Investing in young people’s health and education is the best way for a country to unlock productivity and innovation; cut poverty, create opportunities and generate prosperity,” the report added.

Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian has said he doesn't mind being the lesser known person in his relationship even with all his achievements. He also said he doesn't mind being referred to as "Serena's husband" and he went on to explain why.

Alexis is the co-founder of the social news website Reddit. He also co-founded the early stage venture capital firm Initialized Capital. But people know him more as Serena Williams' husband and he's usually referred to as such. 

A Twitter user asked if he isn't bothered by this and he said, "I don't mind at all". He went on to explain that even if his latest venture grows to be one of the greatest of all time, it will still not compare to what his wife "has done and will continue to do".

He went on to add:

I'm used to being the face of my companies, so I enjoy not being the "public-facing" partner in my marriage.

Breaking: Police declare Davido's uncle, Senator Adeleke wanted for exam malpractice ahead of Osun elections

Davido's uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke who is also the PDP governorship candidate in the Osun election on Saturday has been declared wanted by the Nigerian police.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the police has asked Adeleke and four others to report today to their Special Investigation Panel at the Abuja headquarters for arraignment in court. He and the other suspects will face a charge of examination malpractice, criminal conspiracy, personation.

The police named the other suspects as MR Sikiru Adeleke, Alhaji Aregbesola Mufutau (Principal of Ojo-Aro Community High School, Egbedore LGA, Osun State), Mr Gbadamosi Thomas Ojo (School Staff responsible for the registration of candidates for NECO), Mr Dare Olutope (School Teacher who facilitated the commission of the crime).

Below is the police statement:

On 21st July 2017, the Osun State Police Intelligence Bureau (SIB) received and acted on an actionable intelligence about an ongoing examination malpractice involving Senator Ademola Adeleke and Sikiru Adeleke at OJO/Aro Community High School in Osun state.

“When the Police operative arrived at the school, only Sikiru Adeleke was found seated for the examination while Senator Ademola Adeleke seat was vacant and was suspected to have escaped before the arrival of the Police operatives.

“Further investigation revealed that both Senator Ademola Adeleke and his brother Sikiru Adeleke registered and were sitting for the National Examination Council Examination (NECO) 2017 as internal candidates impersonating students of the School at the ages of 57years and 42years respectively. This crime was facilitated by the principal of the school, and two other members of staff of the school for which they are under investigation and being charged to court.

“The Principal of the school, Alhaji Aregbesola Mufutau, the staff responsible for registration, Mr Gbadamosi Thomas Ojo and a teacher Mr Dare Olutope were arrested on 21 July 2017.

“Senator Ademola Adeleke was arrested on 27 July 2017 and Sikiru Adeleke was arrested on 8 August 2017.

“Senator Ademola Adeleke made cautionary statement and admitted that he registered for the 2017 NECO examinations as an internal student in the said school but he didn’t sit for the examination.

“However, Police investigation revealed the following primafacial and culpability facts against Senator Ademola Adeleke andfour (4) others.

“Senator Ademola Adeleke made cautionary statement and admitted that he registered for the 2017 NECO examinations as an internal student in the said school and did not sit for the examination but have a result from NECO with Seven (7) Credit and One (1) Pass, a copy of which was obtained from NECO by the Police.

“The Ojo/Aro 2017 NECO, SSCE school photo album (School’s copy), with Senator Ademola Adeleke and Sikiru Adeleke Photographs in school uniform in the said album. Senator Ademola Adeleke in the NECO 2017 Result obtained by the claimed that he was born on 12th June 1997 but in his statement to the Police, senator Ademola Adeleke wrote 13th May 1960 as his Date of Birth.

“The photographs of both Senator Ademola Adeleke and Sikiru Adeleke appearing side by side in the photo album have no NECO stamps on them.

“ Senator Ademola Adeleke and four others were arrested, investigated, granted bail and being charged to court. Charges of Examination Malpractice, Criminal Conspiracy, Personation, Breach of Duty, Aiding and Abetting against Senator Ademola Adeleke (PDP Governorship Aspirant in the 22nd September, 2018 Gubernatorial Election in Osun State) and four (4) others namely; MR Sikiru Adeleke, Alhaji Aregbesola Mufutau (Principal of Ojo-Aro Community High School, Egbedore LGA, Osun State), Mr Gbadamosi Thomas Ojo (School Staff responsible for the registration of candidates for NECO), Mr Dare Olutope (School Teacher who facilitated the commission of the crime) have been filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja under the Examination Malpractice Act, CAP E15, 2004 today, Wednesday, 19th September, 2018.

“Consequently, Senator Ademola Adeleke (PDP Governorship Aspirant in the 22nd September, 2018 Gubernatorial Election in Osun State) and four (4) others namely; MR Sikiru Adeleke, Alhaji Aregbesola Mufutau (Principal of Ojo-Aro Community High School, Egbedore LGA, Osun State), Mr Gbadamosi Thomas Ojo (School Staff responsible for the registration of candidates for NECO), Mr Dare Olutope (School Teacher who facilitated the commission of the crime) are hereby advised in their own interest to report to the Special Investigation Panel, Force Headquarters, Abuja immediately for arraignment in court.

Geoffrey Bawa Shitgurum Is An Ex-Convict, Now PDP Governorship Aspirant - Group - Politics -

JOS, Plateau, Nigeria – The ambition of a business mogul, Geoffrey Bawa Shitgurum, to be governor of Plateau State under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019 may be heading for the rocks, following allegations that he had been convicted in the United Kingdom over some shady deals. He was said to have defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP last month. The PDP for Peace and Good Governance Forum, a pressure group, therefore demanded that an investigation should be carried out on the allegation.

The organisation said following the conviction in the UK, he may not be qualified to contest the Plateau State PDP governorship ticket. The National President of the forum, Rev. Jonah Pam, told journalists in Jos that the entry of Shitgurum in the political race of Plateau state will be a great minus and disservice to the party.

But when contacted, a core and unrepentant loyalist of Shitgurum who didn’t want to be mentioned dismissed the allegation, saying that was the mischief of the APC and the ruling government.

“Shitgurum is an accomplished businessmen and technocrat who has done well for himself and the nation. I don’t know why the people making the allegation decided to wait till the election period to raise the allegations. It’s the hands of Esau and voice of Jacob. In 2019, Shitgurum is taking over Plateau Government House. The APC in Plateau state is gone; they’re fretting over impending defeat”, he said.

He said “Even as the elders were happy about the defections coming into the PDP, we must not fail to point out anomalies where they occur in our journey to relevance and we must say that in this instance an anomaly has occurred which must immediately be addressed by our party if we want to be taken seriously.

“We have noticed that one of the persons who have defected to our great party, is a certain character whose presence in our party will not only spell doom for it in the current build up to the general elections but may dent our image as a party to the extent that we may not be able to recover in the near future.

“The defection of Geoffrey Bawa Shitgurum ordinarily should have been welcomed by all lovers of our party since the man has carved out an image for himself as somebody who knows his way in business and politics. But that is only a perception and we must not let such inconsequential impressions not based on any empirical evidence, make us lose sight of the bigger picture, which is what the party stands to lose if the anomy is not addressed.

“The PDP has in the past been blackmailed as a party that not only condones corruption but has been painted as one that harbours criminals. The party was still battling to recover from that blackmail when former governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori who was convicted in the UK came back and rejoined the party. This is a huge burden that the party is still grappling with and is doing all within its powers to improve on its image and the perception of the people.

While that is going on at the national level ahead of the 2019 elections, in Plateau State, we have erred by allowing Shitgurum who has a similar case of conviction with him to join our party.

“We are persuaded to think that since all information may not be available to the leadership of the party at every given time and given the need to secure an advantage over our opponents, we may have overlooked certain key characteristics for party membership, especially for those who like Shitgurum want to contest for the governorship ticket of the party.

“But since it has now come out in the public domain that the man may not be what he professes to be, then it is imperative that the PDP should do the right thing and launch a special investigation into his case so that at the end day we will not end up with an exercise in fuiltiy. Shitgurum had shown that he is not to be trusted even before he defected to the PDP.”

Pam said when it was first rumoured that Shitgurum was planning to join the gubernatorial race against the incumbent Governor Simon Bako Lalong, not many took it seriously “Shitgurum is a brother and close confidant of the Governor.”

According to him, to support the position, Shitgurum quickly dismissed the rumour with the wave of the hand and called it mere fiction of rumour mongers. He said, “However, a fraudulent intent, no matter how it is carefully concealed at the outset, will generally in the end, betray itself. The rumour became a reality when the news of Shitgurum’s defection from the APC to the PDP in the state dominated the headlines last month. The media also reported his declaration to run for the office of Governor on the platform of the PDP.

“Shitgurum was acclaimed to be a seasoned business tycoon and going by this assumption, he should be able to appreciate the sanctity of trust and loyalty. Governor Lalong and the APC accepted Shitgurum and accorded him deserved recognitions in the party but he betrayed that trust and left to join forces with the opposition.

“That meant he did not only lie to the governor, he also lied to the Paramount Ruler of the Goemei nation, The Long Goemai, Mishoum Martins Sheldas. The paramount chief sensed the acrimonious tension brewing up in his domain and summoned a meeting with Godfrey Shitgurum. He asked if he has interest to contest against his brother. Shitgurum denied it out rightly only for the Chief to hear about his declaration. That is an affront to the entire Goemai nation.

“The political space is wide enough to accommodate everybody’s interest. However, in electing who represent the people, we must be circumspect to guard against treacherous characters who will betray the trust of the people. Integrity, moral decency and loyalty should not be sacrificed on the altar of politics. Shitgurum affirmed that he has the character, capacity, credentials and competence to build a new Plateau. The only character he has demonstrated in politics so far is that of betrayal. How can a man that does not believe in his party’s ideology and can cross carpet so easily to another party be trusted to govern a State?

“Even Shitgurum’s business competence is now in doubt over his handling of the Jos Inland Dry port. The Port was concession to him since 2006 and his highly celebrated business sagacity could not manifest in the completion of the Port for over 12 years and still counting, whereas the Kaduna Inland port that started long after Jos has since been commissioned and operational.

“On the Plateau, Shitgurum got several contracts through proxies and left many of them abandoned. How does this demonstrate capacity and competence? The Plateau electorates have a genius for identifying pretenders. Money and corruption are ruining the land, crooked politicians betray the working man, pocketing the profits and treating the people like sheep. The PDP as it is has a surfeit of qualified and respected persons who can fly the party’s flag without attracting unnecessary negative reactions to it.

It is our suggestion that the PDP should wash its hands off anything that would be burden to it and refuse to allow its platform to be used by someone whose entry into the party would engender more problems than solutions.

“The party must use the likes of Shitgurum to set an example and sound a note of warning to others whose only interests in the party is to use its platform to cover their tracks while gunning for political offices to desist from doing so. The Plateau PDP, having produced governors for the state in the last 16 out of the near 20 years of Nigeria’s return to democracy cannot afford to compromise on integrity and might leadership standard.

“The screening committee of the party must do a thorough job to investigate all those expressing interest in flying the party’s ticket. It must check thoroughly the allegations that Shitgurum especially the allegation that engaged in fraud in the UK and ensure that all materials pertaining to the case are availed the party while he should be given the chance to defend himself. If found guilty, Shitgurum should not be allowed to contest for the ticket of the party and be should be disciplined according to the party’s statutes.*
