A junior doctor was beheaded by her boyfriend after she refused to marry him, police say. The boyfriend then tried to take his own life but failed.

26-year-old Shyngys Bekenov, a teacher, proposed to his girlfriend Nazerke Bekzhanova, 21, who had recently graduated from medical university in Kazakhstan. But Nazerke refused to accept the proposal because her parents did not approve of him, it is believed.

A grandmother has been arrested after her granddaughter was stabbed and placed into a hot oven.

The baby was found on Monday night and Carolyn Jones, 48, was arrested on Tuesday. The Mississipi grandmother is charged with first-degree murder for the death of her granddaughter in Shaw, Mississipi, Bolivar County Sheriff Kelvin Williams confirmed to NBC News on Tuesday.

Newborn baby found dead in a well; mother not known (graphic photos)

The body of a newborn baby was found in a well in the northern part of Nigeria and it is believed to have been dumped there by the mother.

The baby's body was found floating in the well by a neighbour who then raised alarm. Residents gathered around the well and fetched the baby out using a fetching bucket.
