'I’m glad senate didn’t confirm me' - EFCC boss, Ibrahim Magu

The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, said on Thursday that he was glad the Senate refused to confirm him as the substantive chairman of the anti-graft agency.

The acting chairman said this before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja where he was testifying in a libel suit he filed against The Sun Newspaper. The EFCC boss who sued the publishers before Justice Doris Okuwobi claimed N5bn damages and also demanded that The Sun Newspapers should publish an apology and retract the alleged libellous publications.

Magu, under cross-examination by the respondent’s counsel, Charles Enwelunta, said he was not worried that he had been rejected by the Senate twice.

A make-up artist is facing murder charges after she allegedly covered up two pregnancies then killed the babies when they were born by throwing them away in the trash.

Alyssa Anne Dayvault, 30, was exposed after she was taken to hospital suffering vaginal bleeding. While at the hospital in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, she delivered a placenta and umbilical cord but no child. She later admitted to police that she had given birth to a boy at home.

A police warrant said: 

The defendant stated that the child was born alive and took multiple gasping breaths after having been born.

The defendant further stated that she failed to secure medical treatment and did not personally take action to attempt to preserve/save the infant’s life.

The defendant then disposed of the child’s body in a waste receptacle at her residence in NMB without seeking help or notifying authorities.

A paedophile was sentenced to receive 100 lashes of the cane for having sex with an underage girl.

The Indonesian man was one of two men given the punishment, one for having sex with his underage step-daughter, and the other for having sex with an underage neighbour.

During the public flogging which was carried out in Indonesia’s conservative Aceh province on Wednesday, the man began begging for mercy after the 5th stroke of the cane. He raised his hand and begged the masked officer carrying out the lashing to stop, saying he could not take the pain, but after doctors declared him fit enough to continue, he received 95 more strikes.

Miss USA forced to apologize for comments she made about the English-speaking abilities of two fellow Miss Universe contestants

Miss USA has apologized after comments she made about two fellow Miss Universe contestants' English-language abilities, sparked backlash online.

In a live Instagram video, 24-year-old contestant Sarah Rose Summers said that Miss Vietnam H'Hen Nie is "so cute and she pretends to know so much English and then you ask her a question after having a whole conversation with her and she (nods and smiles)."

Summers, who was joined in the video by Miss Colombia, Valeria Morales and Miss Australia, Francesca Hung, was attending the Miss Universe pageant in Thailand, which is scheduled to begin on Sunday in Bangkok.

Atiku whose entrance to the venue elicited wide celebrations could not hold back his emotions as he danced joyfully to the music with the women which sent the crowd into a frenzy.

During the interactive event which was the first by the campaign organization, Atiku said he decided interact with the women first because of  the key roles women play in families and nation building, citing  the role his mother and grandmother played in his upbringing.
