Football legend, David Beckham is reportedly in secret talks to be the first footballer in the World to travel to SPACE'

According to The Sun UK, the former British footballer, 43, has been 'mulling it over for some time' and it's looking like it could happen now that 'space travel is becoming a more realistic prospect'.

The publication also claimed that the father-of-four apparently even wants to 'kick a ball' while he's up in the 'celestial heavens'.

A source told the newspaper: 'It’s something that David has talked about for quite a while. It has been mooted in the past but now space travel is becoming a more realistic prospect it could be a reality.'

The insider also added that David's children Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 16, Cruz, 13 and Harper, seven, are all said to be beside themselves over the prospect, and 'have been talking about it and think it would be pretty cool'.

The source goes on to admit that David has 'admitted privately he's very nervous' about the prospect of being blasted into the ether.

This was contained in the ministers speech at the ground breaking an foundation laying ceremony of Lead and Zinc processing plant in Tongyi, Ebonyi state yesterday.

“According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the Mining and Metals sector can easily become the largest employer of labour, since mineral deposits occur in virtually every part of Nigeria,”the minister said.

He however said for this to happen government must develop the downstream sector through beneficiation in order to increase profits dramatically, and provide more opportunities for employment in mining sites all over the country.

“We are therefore laying emphasis on industrialisation of mining processes as recommended by the African Mining Vision (AMV) whose Roadmap was adopted by the African heads of state in 2009.”

The minister said most of the revenue derived from the sector are through royalties and foreign exchange earnings from the exportation of our mineral resources. He said Tongyi remains one of the foremost exporters of lead zinc in Nigeria, which makes their desire to set up this Concentrate Plant most welcoming.

Man sentenced to death by hanging 3 years after he killed his friend over debt (graphic photo)

A man who mudered his friend and cut him into small bits for disposal has been sentenced to death by hanging.

Stephen Anona was sentenced this morning by the Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Uyo over the death of Daniel Bassey Solomon three years ago.

Daniel, an Uyo-based barber, allegedly owed Stephen a debt of N750,000 which he was reluctant to pay. Stephen Anona then lured his victim into his rented one-room apartment on Itu Road, Uyo, on July 28, 2015, and gave him food to eat. Unknown to Daniel, a susbtance was put in the food and he fell into a deep sleep afterwards. 

Stephen then used a sharp machete and cut off Daniel's head, legs, hands and abdomen, and carefully packed them into different bags which he secretly dumped in gutters and other places.

Stephen Anona was initially charged to the magistrate’s court from where he was remanded in Uyo Prison before the case was transferred to the High court.

Entertainment Weekly finally let the "ever-impressive, the long-contained, often imitated, but never duplicated" Genie of the lamp out of his itty bitty living space on Wednesday, December 19, sharing the first photos of Will Smith in character as the magical, mystical creature for Disney's live-action Aladdin remake.

Rather than appear as a larger-than-life supernatural force with royal blue skin and a swirl of smoke where legs should be, Smith is seen in the EW-released images in human form. Standing behind British actress Naomi Scott (Power Rangers, Charlie's Angels reboot) as Princess Jasmine and Mena Massoud (Jack Ryan) as the street-rat-turned-fake-prince Aladdin, he smiles wide while rocking an ornate vest-shirt combo, a voluminous goatee, a hoop earring on his left ear, and a decorated ponytail that sits in the middle of his almost-completely-shaved head.

That's just on the cover of the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine, though. Flipping through the pages to the central story of the issue, readers can see another snap of Smith's Genie — this time facing Massoud's Aladdin in an action shot. The pair — Genie seen laying on his stomach, propped up on a stack of pillows, talking with his hands and appearing to give Aladdin a lecture of some sort — look locked into the scene that likely comes at the start of the film, as Aladdin isn't yet in his Prince Ali get-up.

blockbuster Bumblebee: What the critics are saying

The critics have spoken, and they're saying that the Transformers spin-off Bumblebee is, in a word, transformative.

The first entry in the franchise not to be directed by Michael Bay currently sits at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, garnering the best reviews by far of any film in the series. Critics were won over by the film's '80s setting, an emphasis on character development absent from the preceding flicks, and an appealing lead performance by the Oscar-nominated Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse).

Directed by freshman live-action feature helmer Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) from a script by Christina Hodson (Shut In), the film focuses on Charlie Watson (Steinfeld), a troubled teenager who discovers the titular Autobot hiding out in a junkyard in the guise of a 1967 VW Beetle. Sent to establish an outpost on Earth, Bumblebee must enlist the young woman's aid in evading the military while defending the planet from pursuing Decepticons. Also among the cast are John Cena (Blockers), Pamela Adlon (Louie), and Angela Bassett (Black Panther).

Bumblebee's critical reception represents one of the most dramatic turnarounds in film history for a franchise, as 2014's Transformers: Age of Extinction and 2017's Transformers: The Last Knight both stunk up Rotten Tomatoes with ratings under 20%. We're not going to trash Michael Bay here — there's enough of that going on elsewhere on the internet, and he seems impervious to criticism in any event — but we will go out on a limb and say that the injection of fresh blood may have something to do with Bumblebee's jump in quality.

Clint Worthington of Consequence of Sound would certainly agree with us. "Everything about Bumblebee feels like a fresh start for the franchise," he wrote in his review. "Travis Knight strips down the Transformers aesthetic to something cleaner and more coherent, the robot designs looking more like elevated versions of the old '80s toys than the crumpled tinfoil looks of Bay's designs." He also singled out Steinfeld'd performance, which he called "lovely," and admired the flick's use of its setting: "Imagine Stranger Things if Eleven was a big yellow robot, and you'll have a good idea of how Bumblebee puts nostalgia to effective use," he said.

t's rare to see a movie that's as unabashed of a comic book celebration as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The Sony Pictures Animation release, which loosely adapts the Marvel Comics "Spider-Verse" storyline from 2014, has debuted to almost universal critical acclaim, offering wit and kinetic web-slinging action for general audiences and comics enthusiasts alike.

For fans of the Spider-Man sector of Marvel Comics, Into the Spider-Verse is a gorgeous smorgasbord of references and inside jokes, making for a remarkably fun viewing experience as the movie serves up little bits of Spider-trivia to stoke the viewer's memory. (It also has what is perhaps the most bittersweet and heartwarming Stan Lee cameo we're ever going to see — but we're sure you caught that one.)

If you're even slightly a fan of Spider-Man, you're in for a treat with this movie, because there's enough hidden away inside of Spider-Verse to keep surprising viewers on their second, third, or even fourth run-throughs. Revisiting history
 

While Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is ultimately an origin story for Miles Morales, it shares its spotlight with a number of other Spider-People in the process. The first hero audiences are introduced to is the Peter Parker of Miles' universe, a paragon of goodness, decency, and hyper-capable heroism. The movie starts off with this Peter's narration, catching viewers up on the broad strokes of the Spider-Man story.

Now would be a good time to mention one great thing about living in this golden age of comic book movies — finally, the people behind these movies realize that we all already know Spider-Man's origin story. All of us. Every single person. For that reason, Spider-Verse spends less time belaboring the point and more time building in some cheeky references to past Spider-Man adventures — specifically, the Sam Raimi-directed trilogy of Spider-Man movies.

During Peter's recounting of his exploits as a superhero, the movie revisits several classic set pieces from the Raimi movies, including Spider-Man's heroic train rescue from Spider-Man 2, the time Doctor Octopus threw a car through a window at Peter Parker and Mary Jane in Spider-Man 2, and the much-derided (but secretly awesome) sequence of a symbiote-influenced Peter strutting around New York City in Spider-Man 3 shooting everyone some finger guns.
