ASUU: Strike Continues Until FG Implements Offer - Education -

The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Thursday said the ongoing strike would not be called off until the Federal Government fully implemented all the offers it made to the union after their last meeting.

The public university lecturers said they were tired of Federal Government’s antics of making unfulfilled promises, insisting that the strike would be called off after they got tangible evidence and concrete actions that the offers made to them by the Federal Government had been implemented.

The National President, ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, in an exclusive interview with one of our correspondents in Lagos on Thursday, said the team of the union that met with the government on Tuesday did not reach any agreement with the Federal Government.

Asked when the strike would then be called off, Ogunyemi said, “Our members said they want to see evidence of satisfactory implementation of all they have proposed before the strike can be called off.”

Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that midfielder Paul Pogba will be fit to face third place Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.

Pogba was rested for United’s FA Cup clash against Reading this past weekend after he suffered a knock against Newcastle United. Pogba has been a revelation for United since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took the reigns at Old Trafford following the sacking of Jose Mourinho. The World Cup winner has scored four goals as well as chipping in with three assists in the four Premier League games since Solskjaer’s arrival.

It seems as though Solskjaer – who was United’s reserves team manager following the end of his playing career – has the key to getting the best out of the 25-year-old.

24-year-old photojournalist, Yinka Badmus, pictured above, is reportedly in detention at Ikoyi Prison Lagos after he was allegedly arrested by policemen attached to the Lagos State Anti-Cultism unit for wearing dreadlocks, which the officers allegedly said made him look like a cultist.

According to Vanguard, Yinka was arrested while eating noodles, at Pedro Bus Stop, Gbagada on December 30th 2018. He was detained and was not allowed to contact his relatives or friends.

Yinka's plight was brought to his family's notice on January 3rd 2019 by a detainee who left the police cell.  The detainee contacted Badmus’ relatives explaining to them that he had already spent three days in detention, contravening the stipulated instruction that every suspect must be charged within 24 hours.

Reports have it that Dangote refinery has taken delivery of a gigantic distillation component.

It is learnt that the component is one of the biggest in the world as the refinery is billed to start producing PMS and allied products later this year.

The engineers received the distillation component, which has attracted attention from Lagosians in Ibeju-Lekki area.

The completion of Dangote Refinery this year will mark another milestone in the Nigerian oil and gas industry as the $11 billion refinery hold the prospect of stopping of refined petroleum products by Nigeria.
