Manchester United poised to seal defender transfer with help from club legend

Manchester United are reportedly poised to seal the transfer of highly-rated young Stoke City defender Nathan Collins this summer.
The 18-year-old is not necessarily the big name Red Devils fans are craving to come in and improve their defence, but he looks a real prospect and has been recommended to the club by one of their former players.

According to the Daily Mail, United legend Darren Fletcher, who played for Stoke last season and who is now a candidate to come in for a recruitment role at Old Trafford, is an admirer of Collins and has seemingly put Man Utd in a strong position to complete the deal.
The Mail suggest this should go through alongside another Championship raid as the club are linked with Swansea City starlet Daniel James.
This represents a major change in approach in the transfer market by United after years of signing star names for big fees under Ed Woodward.
This model, however, could be a better move for MUFC as they’ve fallen behind the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool in recent years due to their superior transfer strategy, which has seen them majorly out-perform United despite spending much less.

Arsenal join race for Man United transfer target as £25m star becomes top priority for Gunners

Arsenal are reportedly eager to win the race for the transfer of Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba this summer.
The 18-year-old has shown himself to be a huge prospect with his performances in Ligue 1 this season, and could now be on his way to the Emirates Stadium.
According to Goal, Saliba has become one of Arsenal’s top priorities for the summer in a potential £25million move.
This follows Le 10 Sport also linking the teenager with Manchester United earlier this season, so it could be a battle between these two top four rivals ahead of next season.
Saliba certainly seems ready for a big move and could strengthen both of these teams due to their defensive problems in 2018/19.
Arsenal and United both conceded just over 50 goals in the Premier League – significantly more than the sides who eventually pipped them to top four spots, and even more than the likes of Wolves, Everton and Leicester City just below them.
Saliba may only be young, but could end up being great value at £25m if he continues to develop as he has.

10 best players available for under £50m this summer, including £15m Man United target and £25m maestro linked with Arsenal and Liverpool

We waited what felt like decades for the first £100million transfer – and now we’ve had several in a short space of time after Neymar broke the transfer market with his £200m move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.
Now even under-performing players like Paul Pogba or wonderkids in their first season like Joao Felix are talked up as £100m+ players, but what about the bargains that are still out there?
Despite the super-clubs able to spend whatever they like on players, there are still signs of smart recruitment of some lesser-known talents that have seen clubs like Liverpool and Tottenham over-achieve.
The likes of Dele Alli, Andrew Robertson and Georginio Wijnaldum did not perhaps look world class before their moves, with their clubs able to spot their potential early and bring them in for bargain fees, with their market value since sky-rocketing.
So what players are out there right now who could move for not-crazy money this summer? We’ve got a list of ten talents below that could all be available for less than £50m that clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal simply have to look at this summer if they are to compete with the big boys on smaller budgets…
