''I went into crime to raise money so I can get married'' - Suspected car thief says

A suspected car thief, Yusuf Duguri (pictured above), who was recently arrested by officers of the Niger state police command, says he ventured into crime so he can raise money to get married.

According to the police, Yusuf, 26, who is a professional driver, and his accomplice, 45-year-old Abubakar Adamu, had approached a car dealer, Umar Abdulazeez in Bauchi state, pretending they wanted to buy his Honda Accord car with registration number YAB 737 AR.
Shortly after they were given the keys, they zoomed off with the car.  This was after they allegedly hypnotised the car dealer with charms.
The police was alerted and after much investigation and trailing, they were apprehended in Suleja while trying to sell off the car.

When interrogated, Yusuf said they had stolen three cars in Bauchi before they were apprehended in Niger state. He also stated that himself and his accomplice had informants who benefit from the proceeds of any stolen vehicle.
“We operate in all the states in the north depending on the location of the vehicle. Once our informant calls us and tells us the location of a vehicle, we will rush there immediately to dispossess the owner. I wanted to stop it (car theft) but when my wife and father died the same day, I had to look for money to remarry because I can’t stay alone. Honestly, my plan was that once I got enough money to marry, I would quit the business.  I am a qualified driver, but nobody wanted me to drive their vehicle, that was why I joined this gang that has ruined my life,” he  said

Confirming their arrest, the state police comman's spokesperson, Muhammad Abubakar, said the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.
