Flagship Battle: How The Galaxy Note 9 Trumps The Iphone XS Max - Phones

I want to compare both flagship phones from two of the biggest rivals in the smartphone industry, Samsung and Apple. The Galaxy Note 9 is the best Samsung phone out there for now while the iPhone XS Max is Apple’s best phone as well. These high end devices are almost the same price (around $1000) but the iPhone is still a little more expensive. I will be doing this comparison side by side. Enjoy

iPhone XS Max vs Samsung Galaxy Note 9: Display

iPhone XS Max: 6.5-inch OLED, 1242 x 2688, 458 ppi
Galaxy Note 9: 6.4-inch OLED, 1440 x 2960, 516ppi
Both screen panels are made with OLED. Obviously the screen on the iPhone XS Max is a little bigger than that on the Galaxy Note 9 with just an inch but the Resolution and pixel density on the Note 9 is more than that on the iPhone XS Max.

WINNER: GALAXY NOTE 9

XS Max vs Galaxy Note 9: Performance and processor.

While we wait for the latest Snapdragon 855 chipset to be released, the Snapdragon 845 which powers the Galaxy Note 9 is the most powerful processor from Qualcomm. The Snapdragon 845 brings first-class speeds and tremendous power efficiency that lets the Note 9 easily last a full day on heavy usage. iPhone XS Max uses the A12 Bionic which is the most powerful chipset from Apple but apart from what Apple told us about the chip, we don’t really know much. Already the A11 Bionic is very powerful, so if they say the A12 is more powerful, then it means the A12 is very powerful indeed.

WINNER: iPhone XS Max

XS Max vs Samsung Galaxy Note 9: Battery

iPhone XS Max: Lasts 1.5 hours longer than the iPhone X
Galaxy Note 9: 4,000mAh

There’s going to be a little argument here simply because Apple refuse to tell the world the size of their battery. They just give us estimates on paper about how long it is expected to last which in my opinion cannot be trusted. Samsung Note has massive 4000mAH battery capacity which we all know to be an absolute workhorse. Combining this battery with the Snapdragon 845, it’s a real bomb.

WINNER: GALAXY NOTE 9

XS Max vs Samsung Galaxy Note 9: Storage

iPhone XS Max: 64GB/256GB/512GB
Galaxy Note 9: 128GB/512GB
Both smartphones offer up storage space of up to 512GB which should be more than enough for anyone but what makes the Samsung stand out from the crowd is the fact that the Galaxy Note 9 also offers a slot for an microSD card, which will let you add an addition 512GB of storage. That's over 1 Terabyte of storage, more storage than a lot of laptops can carry !

WINNER: GALAXY NOTE 9

XS Max vs Samsung Galaxy Note 9: Rear camera

XS Max: Dual 12MP wide-angle (f/1.cool and telephoto cameras (f/2.4), dual optical image stabilization, 2x optical zoom
Galaxy Note 9: Dual 12MP wide-angle (f/1.5-2.4) and telephoto cameras (f/2.4), dual optical image stabilization, 2x optical zoom
Yeah I know, both camera are almost similar in terms of specs and they both offer 4K resolution video recording at 60fps and they support portrait mode but what give Samsung a little edge is the fact that it offers super-slow-motion video recording at 960fps while the iPhone stops at 240fps.

WINNER: Galaxy Note 9

XS Max vs Samsung Galaxy Note 9: Biometrics and security

Finally I’m going to talk about the biometrics of these phones which is for security. iPhone dumped the home button last year, and this year shows that there’s no going back but for Samsung, I’m happy they didn’t. iPhone also dumped the fingerprint scanner but equipped the XS Max with Apple’s True Depth camera for Face ID unlocking. Apple also says the system is faster at recognizing faces than it was on the iPhone X. But Samsung offers both fingerprint scanner and its facial unlocking, called Intelligent Scan.

WINNER: GALAXY NOTE 9

FINAL VERDICT

I don’t want to talk about the price which is almost the same thing even though the XS Max is alittle more expensive but looking at my in-depth analysis, the Galaxy Note 9 beat the iPhone XS max hands down. Maybe not hands down, but at the end of the day it still beat the XS Max grin grin. It still boils down to individual preferences though.
