The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has stated that the nation’s aim of attracting investors to its gas utilisation drive and creating value for the economy has been responsible for different gas prices in the domestic market.
The Chief Operating Officer, Upstream, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Mr. Bello Rabiu, made this known yesterday, at the just concluded Society of Petroleum Engineers, Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition in Lagos. According to him, “Part of the reasons for the gas master plan is to make the domestic gas market viable and reduce entry barriers. “As incentives, we have one gas price for power, another for industries, so that they can have cheaper energy. Also, there is a different price for gas-based industries such as fertilizers and petrochemicals. This is aimed at arriving at a willing buyer, willing seller model of pricing.” He further stated that, “The end goal of this is so that Nigerian companies in these industries can compete favourably with companies that produce similar products around the world. In this sense a Nigerian fertilizer manufacturer should be able to compete with other fertilizers makers around the world. “To ensure there is willing buyer, willing seller model in the domestic gas market, the NNPC decided 5 billion standard cubic feet of gas daily, will be able to sustain supply and sufficiency of gas to the domestic market.” Also speaking, the Managing Director, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company, SNEPCo, Bayo Ojulari, said: “If the right people are placed in areas where we want things to be done, this country will move forward. Apart from human capacity in our oil and gas business, human capacity in diversify economy, is the key element we need to focus on, we cannot do any of this without building human capacity and hence the collaboration with universities must be more solid than it used to be. “In Nigeria, 2 million people enter the labour market every year and the biggest economies around the world are leveraging on their population, if your population is productive. It is a blessing. “But diversification must be focused. We need a diversification roadmap that will integrate Nigeria economy and it should be underpinned as jointly signed by commitment that shows what each of us is going to contribute to building the roadmap, and every year, as we reflect on our performance against that, and we show where we are, and how we are moving forward. “For Nigeria to diversify its economy, it must leverage on the low hanging fruits, such as, agriculture, petrochemicals, which use gas as its feedstock and more importantly, education and technology. “To reap the benefits of a diversified economy, an enabling environment is needed. This includes security, transparency and accountability, infrastructure (power, pipeline networks) and effective Public Private and Academia (PPA) partnerships.” Chairman and Managing Director, Chevron Nigeria Limited Jeffrey Ewing noted that, “Gas is a big source of economic diversification. It can transform agro based industries through the use of fertilizers. “But to attract the needed investment, we need fiscal terms that incentivise investors. Some companies have supplied gas but have not been paid. We also need fiscal terms that encourage small and medium term projects.” http://www.akelicious.net/2018/08/why-we-have-different-gas-prices-in.html |
Childless housewife arrested for brutalising househelp who taunted her (photos)

The police in Lagos state have arrested a housewife identified as Bose Ogedengbe for allegedly brutalising her ward, Favour 13, at their house on Bush Street, in the Anthony Village area of Lagos State. According to the police, Bose attacked Favour for using her childlessness to abuse her.
Favour was brought to Lagos by her father, a farmer, to reside with Bose's husband who is a relative.
Last Friday, Bose was rebuking Favour for a wrong deed and in the heat of their argument, Favour allegedly called her a childless woman. This got Bose angry and she attacked Favour.
Wasiu Ismail, an aluminium fabricator, who resides in the area where Favour ran to with blood all over her body, said
“Around 6.30am on Friday, an elderly man who lives on this street brought the girl. He said he saw her with blood all over her body. When I queried her, she said her guardian’s wife maltreated her every day and it was when it became unbearable that she decided to run away from the house.” he told Punch
Ismail said when the victim was queried on the reason for her being beaten, she claimed that she had washed some clothes the previous day. According to him, the 13-year-old said she had gone to remove the clothes from the line but some of them had yet to dry up. Bose, on discovering that some of the clothes were still wet, allegedly became angry and brutalised the victim.
“I asked if she wanted to go back, but she said she could not because the woman, who she called her aunt, would kill her,” he added.
Bose got wind of Favour's whereabout and stormed the place with Police men but the residents of the area refused to allow favour go with her. Favour on close observation had marks sustained from torture all over her body.
Suleiman Habeeb, a student, said they refused to release the teenager because they feared she might be returned to the Bose for further torture.
“Her version of the story was a bit different. She said the girl abused her that she was a witch and that was why she had not conceived. She said the girl’s grandma was behind the mischief. We told the woman not to think that she could use the police to harass us. We called different emergency numbers of Lagos State and sent distress calls to government agencies. Some youths wanted to beat up the woman, but we cautioned them. We are happy that the government has now taken over the case and we hope justice will be done. We want the government to take action against the woman. If you cannot take care of a child, return her to her parents and do your domestic chores yourself,” Habeeb said.
Speaking on the incident, the Director, Public Affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Youths and Social Development, Adeola Olabisi, said Favour has been taken into custody by the state government.
“The girl said the woman beats her up at the slightest provocation. She has fading and fresh scars to show for it. She wishes to continue staying in Lagos, but not with the woman. We have taken her into custody and handed over the suspect to the police for prosecution.”
