ASUU: No Regret Stopping Gowon, Soyinka From Speaking At Uniabuja Event - Education -

The Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Abuja chapter, Dr Kasim Umaru, has said the union has no regret for disrupting anti-corruption event in the institution.

The New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the union led by Umaru prevented Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd), and former Education Minister, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili from speaking at the event.

The ASUU Chairman told NAN in a telephone interview yesterday that the union disrupted the programme because of the ongoing strike.

He said such magnitude of programme could not hold in the institution because lecturers were also involved in the event.

“Those eminent personalities for the programme are all aware of our plight and did nothing; we disrupted the event because we are on strike,” he said.

Nobody Will Fear Man Utd In Last 16 - Owen - Sports -

Jose Mourinho's side have secured Champions League progress, but a former striker believes they are no match for the European elite at present

Manchester United hold no fear to the Champions League heavyweights, says Michael Owen, with Porto the only last-16 opponents the Red Devils should feel confident against.

Jose Mourinho’s side were already assured of progress in Europe prior to a trip to Valencia on Wednesday.

They could, however, have topped Group H had they taken maximum points from that contest, with Juventus suffering a surprise 2-1 defeat to Young Boys.

United came unstuck by the same scoreline on Spanish soil, with another disjointed display seeing Phil Jones put through his own net and the Red Devils make little impression in the final third until Marcus Rashford grabbed a late consolation.

N143 Billion Budgeted For 2019 Election Can Lift 14M Nigerians Out Of Poverty - Politics -

An excerpt of my full interview with the NIGERIAN TRIBUNE, on our campaign to lift 1000 Widows and their families out of poverty.

1) Who is Apostle Azemobor Gregory and what do you do for a living?

Azemobor Gregory is a messenger of Truth, a servant of God with a divine calling to preach the message of love to the world. By the grace of God, I am the Chief Servant of the Voice of Divine Truth International Outreach, a non-religious humanitarian organization propagating the virtue of love amongst humanity.
You see, there are two sides to the life of everyone: what you do to fulfill God's purpose for your life is your 'calling', while what you do to earn a living is your 'career'. And so, my understanding of the dual nature of our existence has guided me to create a perfect balance between my calling and my career.
I am the MD/CEO of Bethel Mendels Group. I started a marketing company in 2001, from a seed capital of N20,000 I borrowed from my mother. Over the years, our company Bethel Mendels Group has grown into a conglomerate with interest in local footwear manufacturing, Promotional printing, Landscaping, and interior decoration services.
It is important to emphasize here that your career (business) should fundamentally provide for your calling (purpose) that is why you see people like Bill Gate, Warren Buffet spending almost their entire riches supporting noble causes. Bill Gate has spent millions of dollars fighting polio and improving the quality of life of several poor Nigerians. I like most white people; they understand how to live a 'balanced life'. They are not religious like Nigerians, but very godly, godly in the sense that they are compassionate to the needs of others.

It is not the Federal government's problem if Nigerians lack electricity – Fashola

It is not the Federal government
Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has said that it is not the Federal government's problem if some Nigerians do not have electricity.
Punch reports that the Minister said this when he spoke at the Nextier Power Dialogue which held in Abuja yesterday December 12th.
“There are problems without a doubt and we must deal with them. But let me remind you, all of the assets that the Ministry of Power used to control for power have been sold by the last administration before I came. And so if you don’t have power, it is not the government’s problem. Let us be honest. The people who are operating the power sector, generation and distribution are now privately owned companies. I am here because I am concerned. If your telephone is not working, it is not the minister of communication that you go to. Let us be very clear. So for those of you who want to weaponise electricity, face the businessmen who have taken it up. Let us be honest. If your bank over-charges you interest, is it the minister of finance you go to? So let’s be clear. This is now a private business by Act of parliament 2005.  My role is regulatory, oversight and policy, but I have a problem which is the fact that I can’t see a problem and turn my back, so I’m getting involved. So the people you should be talking to about transformers is not me, the ministry doesn’t supply transformers anymore.”
When asked to take the blame since he is the head of the Ministry of Power with the Gencos and Discos under his authority, Fashola said

Presidential Debate: Fela Durotoye Wants Donald Duke And Sowore Included (pic) - Politics -

We can't just keep quiet as if nothing is wrong. This is why these old rogues think they are bigger than the people who elect them.

If the Donald Duke and Omoyele are not included in the debate, then every other reasonable presidential candidate should boycott it.

Michelle Williams 'advised by doctors to take leave of absence' from Broadway show after calling off her engagement to pastor Chad Johnson

Michelle Williams

Destiny's Child star, Michelle Williams, is taking a leave of absence from her role in Broadway's Once On This Island show.
The 38-year-old singer who plays Erzulie in the Tony-winning production, was 'advised by her doctors' to take a break from the show, producers said in a statement.
'Effective immediately, Michelle T. Williams has been advised by her doctors to take a leave of absence from performing,' read the statement.
According to Mail Online, the singer will be replaced in the show by Cassondra James until December 26, then Lea Salonga will commandeer the part through the end of the run January 6.
This comes days after Williams announced that her engagement to her fiance, pastor Chad Johnson, 40, was off.
