Chief Daddy races to N235.5 million in 18 days to become top Nollywoood film of 2018 and third biggest movie of all time

EbonyLife Films’ Chief Daddy closed its 2018 record-breaking run with an astounding N235,469,368 - the highest box-office total for a Nigerian film in 2018 and the third-highest-grossing Nollywood movie of all time.The Niyi Akinmolayan film overtook King of Boys and squeezed past Merry Men, the 5th and 4th on the list of highest-grossing films, and into third place behind The Wedding Party and The Wedding Party 2. This amazing feat makes EbonyLife Films a producer of all three movies at the top of the all-time box office chart.

The emergence of Chief Daddy capped the end of a remarkable year for Nollywood, despite a slow start, in which three films went beyond the N200 million barrier, a feat only achieved by the Wedding Party movies in 2016 and 2017. Ayodeji 'AY' Makun had his biggest hit to date with the dramatic comedy, Merry Men, that posted N235.2 million by the end of its run. Kemi Adetiba's King of Boys was the second big Nollywood movie of 2018, scoring over N220 million. Also, it was a landmark year for Niyi Akinmolayan, who directed two films,The Wedding Party 2 and Chief Daddy, that gained no.1 status in the same year.

As is her usual wont, daughter of Billionaire oil magnate, Femi Otedola, Florence Otedola aka DJ cuppy rented out the IMAX Cinemas Lekki just to watch Mo Abudu’s Chief Daddy movie with two of her friends.

Cuppy who is known to pull stunts like this, announced it via her Insta stories while appreciating the movie and it’s producer.

Recall that before her affair with Asa Asika hit the rocks, the Disc Jockey once rented out a cinema to watch a movie with her lover.

This time however, Cuppy saw the movie with her friends – two girls and not her lover.

Iran announces plan to ban Instagram over “immoral content"

Irananian president Hassan Rouhani is a major presence on Instagram, where his verified account regularly sends out posts to an audience of more than 2 million followers, but his account will no longer be officially allowed in the country after authorities in Iran announced plans to ban the photo sharing app, citing national security concerns.  

Iran’s National Cyberspace Council has approved steps to block Instagram, according to local reports, following crackdowns on other social media apps. Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Telegram are already banned in the Islamic Republic, with internet providers ordered to block access to the services.

Pastor resigns after confessing to sleeping with his married daughter

Good reputation is priceless, and that is why those who have it must guard it jealously.

A UK-based Zimbabwean pastor who has obviously lost what it takes to be the man of God for his followers to look up to, thought it prudent to step aside after confessing to having slept with his married daughter.

The incestuous and scandalous act of Pastor Walter Masocha, leader of Agape for All Nations Church reportedly came to light after his daughter’s husband chanced on the explicit messages and nude pictures she had been sending to her father.

Walter’s shocked son-in-law took evidence of his discovery to his mother-in-law, Judith to complain to her.

Being equally surprised, she also confronted her pastor husband who reportedly confessed to the incestuous act, probably because of the strength of the evidence.

In a statement that announced his resignation, one of the church’s leaders, Francis Aturia referred to the incident as a “serious moral fall”.
