World Bank President, Jim Yong Kim has announced that he would step down next month, more than three years before his current term was due to expire.

The decision ends Kim’s six-year tenure and may give US President Donald Trump decisive influence over the future leadership of the 189-member global development lender.
“It has been a great honor to serve as president of this remarkable institution, full of passionate individuals dedicated to the mission of ending extreme poverty in our lifetime,” Kim, 59, said in a statement.

INEC To Train Over 1m Personnel For 2019 Elections - Politics -


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will train over one million electoral staff and ad-hoc personnel for the conduct of the 2019 general elections.

Mr Solomon Soyebi, Chairman, Board of Electoral Institute (BEI), made the disclosure on Monday in Calabar.

He stated this during a training workshop for State Training Officers and Assistant State Training Officers on Cascade Training Implementation for 2019 elections.

The workshop was organised by INEC in collaboration with the International Foundation of Electoral System (IFES).

Soyebi explained that 850,000 electoral personnel would be trained as polling unit officials, while 150,000 would consist of Civil Society Organisations and officials of security agencies officials.

‘‘With just about 39 days to the first election and about 53 days to the second one, it is very important that we train our people adequately.

“For the poll officials, we are going to train over 850,000 personnel.

FG reaches agreement with ASUU to release N15.4bn for salary shortfalls

The Federal Government has reached an agreement with members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to resolve the on-going industrial action.  

Addressing journalists on Monday evening after the meeting with the striking lecturers in Abuja, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, said the majority of their demands have been met including the release of N15.4 billion for payment of salary shortfalls.  

According to him, the Federal Government is also in the process of releasing another N20 billion for payment of earned allowances for university lecturers.

Diepreye, the wife of the Nigerian Air Force pilot, Flight Lieutenant Perowei Jacob, who was killed in the Mi-35M Air Force helicopter crash in Dakwamba in Borno state on Wednesday January 2nd, has said that she learnt of his death on a WhatsApp status update.
Diepreye and her late husband had their wedding in December 2018 and three weeks later, he was killed in the crash. 
In an interview with Punch, Diepreye said the WhatsApp status update was that of her husband’s colleague, who was unaware that she had his number. She said she did not see the death of her husband coming, having just been married to him.
“My husband left for the trip five days after we got married and since he left, I’ve been alone. We spoke before he took off on the trip. When I tried his number at night, it was not going through and I switched off my phone afterwards. The following morning, I tried reaching him again, but it still was not going through. I went on WhatsApp and I saw the picture of my husband and his co-pilot with the caption: ‘Rest in Peace’ on the status update of one of his colleagues, who didn’t know that I had his WhatsApp number. When I saw it, I was so shocked that I threw my phone away in disbelieve. I picked it up again and went through it. Just as I was about running out of the house, the commander arrived to confirm my fear.” she said

Comedian Kevin Hart has tendered another apology to the LGBTQ community for his decade-old homophobic tweets which made him pull out from hosting the Oscars.  
'I will say this, and I want to make this very clear. And I'm going to say it just in case you guys try to take this sh*t and chop it up, I will rebuttal with this f*cking piece right here,' Hart said on his SiriusXM show Straight from the Hart. 'Once again, Kevin Hart apologizes for his remarks that hurt members of the LGBTQ community. I apologize.' 
Hart also said during the radio show that there 'has to be an acceptance for change'.
'I'm not debating right from wrong. I've already stated it's wrong. But, the other side of it is this. If the fight from the LGBTQ community is equality, that's the fight. The fight is the will and want for equality. I'm riding with you guys. I understand you,' Hart said.
