Patrice Evra was left shocked by the drop in standards at
Manchester United after returning to the club to do his coaching badges,
reports say. The Frenchman won five Premier League titles at United and has
been a vocal figure on social media in recent weeks, offering words of wisdom
to the squad and their academy stars. But the Daily Mail claims Evra has been
‘shocked’ by the coaching and general set-up at United’s training ground. Evra
departed United at the beginning of David Moyes’ ill-fated reign after eight
years of sustained success under Sir Alex Ferguson.
United have had four managers since Moyes, including
interim coach Ryan Giggs and Evra’s former team-mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is
currently at the helm. Despite Solskjaer’s efforts to restore a Ferguson-like
regime at Carrington, Evra has several concerns with how the team is being
managed. Evra believes there are too many staff members around the first-team
and thinks the players are too pampered as a result. Evra thinks there are too
many staff at the training ground (Picture: Reuters) It is not just Evra who
shares this worry and the 38-year-old is concerned about the lack of leadership
and quality in the first-team squad. Many United players feel the same and
morale in the camp has only been made worse by another humiliating defeat, this
time at the hands of West Ham. An injury-stricken United put in a dismal
performance that leaves them eighth in the Premier League table, with just
eight points from six games. While the pressure is building on Solskjaer, the
Norwegian retains the support of the United board. Solskjaer must find
solutions quickly and is set to welcome back Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood
and Paul Pogba to his team this week after injury spells.
